Bush for president
As the presidential election approaches, the American family is a house divided. Voters are split into two roughly equal camps supporting either President George W. Bush or Sen. John Kerry. This split, however, cannot be defined simply by party and poll numbers. For beneath the deplorably poisonous partisanship that has marked this campaign, there are many thoughtful voters, including those committed to one candidate or the other, who have serious reservations about both. The Salt Lake Tribune shares those reservations. Despite policy and personality differences that clearly separate the two men, there is no easy or obvious choice. Nevertheless, voting, like governing, is about making choices, and that is why The Tribune endorses George W. Bush for a second term as president of the United States.

Technically, it's an endorsement, but also brings to mind "Damning with faint praise".
The lightweight press in the west seems to want to use the mug-wump approach. If you read the editorial of the Trib, it sounds like an idiot first year wananbe liberal trying to have it both ways in as much as their readership covers the entire conservative state and not just the elitists of Salt Lake liberalism who think they are so, so intelligent about it all.
Wow! How true that is!

OTOH, they are a business, and even a muckraker needs to sell fish wrap to pay the bills. I suspect they're just stirring the pot for that reason. |
Now that I'm able to shut my mouth, oh my. I never thought the Salt Lake Tribune would endorse President Bush. They've smashed mouthed him enough over the past four years.
That said, I think there is a landslide in the making for President Bush...
I had quit reading the SL Tribune, even on-line. But I will be reading the letters to the editors at least over the next week. Much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth of the SLC liberals.
Those letters to the editor are a hoot. It is sometimes hard to force the reading of such, however makes for great morning comedy to read the lightweight and pseudo elitist banter. Pseudo elitist because of my own descriptive term for the left in Utah is: Naive Arrogance.
I read the commentary. At least the Trib stuck to it's liberal ways and still managed to bash the war and tax cuts. That took a little bit away from the endorsement shock. If they wouldn't have gone into the nasty 'bad war' and 'tax cuts for the rich' diatribe, I would've still been passed out on the floor.
