San Diego - The city ordered the removal of 16 Ramadan banners from lamposts, angering Muslim business owners who say the decision was discriminatory.
For five years, the signs have been a fixture in a southeastern San Diego community during Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting and prayer. The green-and-white banners feature a half moon, star and the words "Ramadan Mubarak," which means "blessed Ramadan."
Abdur-Rahim Hameed, president of the Black Contractors Association, said the removal was "a very upsetting thing." He asked whether the city would also order Christians to take down displays, and said Muslim Americans were being targeted because of the Sept. 11 attacks.
"It's open season on Muslims," he said.
A city code enforcement officer ordered the removal this week because of the religious content of the banners. The officer said the city received a complaint.
The officers' supervisor, code enforcement coordinator Melody Negrete, also noted that the Diamond Business Improvement District, which runs the banner program, had not obtained a permit to display them.
Its nice to see someone in California have some sense.
He asked whether the city would also order Christians to take down displays, and said Muslim Americans were being targeted because of the Sept. 11 attacks.Christian displays? Does he mean all that oderless, flavorless, non-sectarian "happy holiday," "sparkle season" palaver that merchants foist on us?

What's the daily limit?

Yeah cry me a river it's so tough being islamic nowadays when beheading videos are a form of family entertainment.
Somehow I doubt if there are crucifixes hanging from the lamp posts.
NOW would be a good time.
They should post the bag limit.
Amen!
Amen to that Amen
*chuckle* The very same thing went through my fertile little mind the second I read that.......
Pardon me for sounding a dissenting note, but this is stupid. It is yet another example of government attempting to purge the public square of any thing that even hints at religious expression. This is the same rationale that drives the removal of Nativity scenes, threatens to erase a barely noticable angel from the Los Angeles city seal, and led the French to ban head scarfs and "overly noticable" crucifixes in public.
"Wabbit season"...."Duck season"....wabbit....duck....
LOL, someone should tell Daffy and Bugs, they'll be so relieved..
Muslims should type San Diego, nativity, and remove into google and a few other search engines before they get their shorts all in a bunch.
Really???

I'd bet there's another problem going on here and Abdur doesn't know or care about the Christian displays.
That's true. I find it ironic that liberals who will espouse the glories of "diversity" will immediately turn around and order the purging of anything religious- unless the religious expression meshes with leftism. Apparently diversity only means leftist ideology, "sexual orientation," and a select sampling of cultures- so long as offensive religious elements are removed.
Really ..whats the daily bag limit?
Just noticed there is a long thread on this here:http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1254819/posts
