Grandparents form political bloc ahead of Nov. 2 vote

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Candidates for the White House now have yet another potentially influential bloc of voters to court, with the founding of a political interest group for grandpas and grandmas.

The new group GrannyVoter.org said it would hold an official press conference announcing its unveiling on Tuesday. The group was also set to roll out the results of a poll of grandparents, and their political preferences.

"Seventy million grandparents, and the total will be 80 million by 2010 as the 'Baby Boom' generation (born between 1946 and 1964) become grandparents," the group said.

Yet, surprisingly, despite their numbers, very little has been done to understand how being a grandparent shapes one's views of the issues and influences the senior vote," Grannies.org said in a statement.

"GrannyVoter.org, a movement to encourage grandparents to speak out as trustees of the future, will release the findings of the first poll ever to ask grandparents how concerns about grandchildren will affect the senior vote -- the most powerful voting bloc in the American electorate."

The national poll of grandparent voters to be unveiled this week was conducted by the Ipsos-Public Affairs polling research, the website said.

The only polling group currently showing Kerry in the lead. Let me guess, Granny vote is going to show that the Grandparents of American support Kerry about 73% to 37%

Gee Who is paying for Granny vote? Moveon? ACT? The DNC? Theresa?

Too late, every grandparent in our reasonably-sized family is voting Bush.

They're Baby Boomers and parents of the '50s and '60s. Most of them are "liberated" women (thanks to Friedan and other founders of the second wave of witches). A large percentage of them have divorced at least once.

...remember during the 2000 Election, in Florida--the old women carrying NOW signs and screaming profanities against our current President George Bush?

People and morals aren't the way they used to be.

I better let my grandkids know how I'm voting. Don't want them to try signing me up the Grey Machine.

I am a granny, and by heaven would never vote for Kerry. It scares me to think he may be in the White House! Almost as much as Gore being in charge! Where are the grannys they surveyed or polled? No one contacted me or any of the many other grandparents I know. this is nonsense...
