Bush blasts Kerry, touts national security at rally

By SVEN GUSTAFSON
Of The Daily Oakland Press

PONTIAC - Speaking to a frenzied crowd of supporters at the Silverdome, President Bush on Wednesday used his second visit to Oakland County this month to reach out to disaffected Democratic voters. He said he is the better choice to support families and safeguard the nation.

In a nearly 40-minute speech that stuck largely to well-established messages of national security, the war on terror and the effects of tax cuts on the economy, Bush said Democrat John Kerry has consistently shown himself to be wrong on issues of national security. He said the Massachusetts senator has stood in opposition to the "great traditions" of his own party.

"The party of Franklin Roosevelt, the party of Harry Truman, the party of John Kennedy is rightly remembered for confidence and resolve in times of war and in hours of crisis," Bush said. "Sen. Kerry has turned his back on 'pay any price' and 'bear any burden' and replaced those commitments with 'wait and see' and 'cut and run.'"

He said many Democrats no longer recognize their own party.

"If you believe America should lead with strength and purpose and confidence in our ideals," the president said, "I would be honored to have your support, and I'm asking for your vote."

(snip) Fans, estimated at just under 30,000, nearly filled half of the lower bowl and floor of the Silverdome and waved cardboard cutout "W" signs in blue, white, yellow and green. Two giant American flags hung high above the stage on either side.

Kerry is making a huge push in Nevada. Tons of antiBush commercials. And Kerry has been here quite a few times. Now he is bringing sick slick willie with him.

That's pretty much the same turnout the Lions used to get there.

I thought Caroline told him not to use Daddy's name.

Apparently, he just didn't care.

girls from Mustang ranch for Skerry and Bubba - surprise surprise RAT men living off of women. Only a loser would campaign in a state he can't win during the last week of the election. If he is pulling out of CO what makes him think that NV will go for him?

Exactly how strong is Senator Kerry's lead in CA?

Is it still comfortably double digits?

Don King was there. I think he's going to handle Zell Miller's pro boxing career.

I kid, I kid, because I love.

Because he is working Las Vegas where almost 3/4ers of the population of Nevada live. If he wins Las Vegas he stands a good chance of winning Nevadas 5 electoral votes.

We are being assaulted by pro kerry commercials at the moment. I have never seen anything like it.

sorry to hear that - it appears that Vegas is testing the Kool-Aid that has been carried in by their new Calif transplants.

No way Reid should be the Senator from a fun loving, no rules state like NV. Yet the people that think they are just a coupld pulls of the handle or a roll of the dice away from the big pay out want to share their winnings via the RAT legislation. go figure
