Video Suggests Explosives Disappeared After U.S. Took Control
ABC News ^ | October 29, 2004 | Martha Raddatz

Oct. 28, 2004 — The strongest evidence to date indicates that conventional explosives missing from Iraq's Al-Qaqaa installation disappeared after the United States had taken control of Iraq.

Barrels inside the Al-Qaqaa facility appear on videotape shot by ABC television affiliate KSTP of St. Paul, Minn., which had a crew embedded with the 101st Airborne Division when it passed through Al-Qaqaa on April 18, 2003 — nine days after Baghdad fell.

Discrepancy Found in Explosives Amounts

Alleged American Al Qaeda Warns of U.S. Attacks Video Suggests Explosives Disappeared After U.S. Took Control Person of the Week: Complete Coverage Experts who have studied the images say the barrels on the tape contain the high explosive HMX, and the U.N. markings on the barrels are clear.

"I talked to a former inspector who's a colleague of mine, and he confirmed that, indeed, these pictures look just like what he remembers seeing inside those bunkers," said David Albright, president of the Institute for Science and International Security in Washington.

The barrels were found inside sealed bunkers, which American soldiers are seen on the videotape cutting through. Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency sealed the bunkers where the explosives were kept just before the war began.

"The seal's critical," Albright said. "The fact that there's a photo of what looks like an IAEA seal means that what's behind those doors is HMX. They only sealed bunkers that had HMX in them."

After the bunkers were opened, the 101st was not ordered to secure the facility. A senior officer told ABC News the division would not have had nearly enough soldiers to do so.

It remains unclear how much HMX was at the facility, but what does seem clear is that the U.S. military opened the bunkers at Al-Qaqaa and left them unguarded. Since then, the material has disappeared.

It is revealing that ABC says 1.1D means it's HMX, when it could ALSO be any of a dozen or more other common explosives including black powder and gunpowder.

Did ABC really say that? Incredible!

The ignorance of journalists always amaze me.

The problem is that enough people already dislike Bush or have wavering opinions.

We all know where you stand troll boy.

Actually, the fact that most Bush supporters are going to be listening to Laura I, Neal B, Rush L and Sean H repeat mercilessly from 8.30 am to 6pm exactly how false all this is is going to make them even more heavily resolved for da Man.

And hearing it might not hurt a few of the can't-decide-cause-can't-handle-losing-attention types, either.

Assuming they are still listening and haven't already gone to sleep.

As an attorney, I am trained to spot B.S.
And this "article" is one of the biggest B.S. jobs I have ever seen.

Look at these empty sentences and how they have no real meaning.

(1) The strongest evidence to date indicates that conventional explosives missing from Iraq's Al-Qaqaa installation disappeared after the United States had taken control of Iraq.

Strongest evidence to date??? If you have weak evidence, then this evidence is a little less weak. So what? The author probably worked for hours in choosing these pitiful words.

Also, when did we ever take control of Iraq. One could argue we took control of Iraq during the original Gulf War.

(2) "I talked to a former inspector who's a colleague of mine, and he confirmed that, indeed, these pictures look just like what he remembers seeing inside those bunkers," said David Albright, president of the Institute for Science and International Security in Washington.

Wonder if it ever crossed the "reporter's" mind to talk to the friend. What bullshit!!! Sorry but this is ridiculous.

UN0484 HMX, desensitized (HMX Dry or unphlegmatized) I think is what would be closer, but after watching the video I don't think that is what it is. Here is what I think it is.

The 6 label in the video is definitely a toxic inhalation hazard. I've never seen an X before. They are always in zones A, B, C or D. That is internationally. The label is probably a subsidiary (secondary)risk label of another primary risk. * This is rare for a munition.

The ONLY 1.1D Blasting Agent in a dry form that has a subsidiary Hazard of 6. (Toxic Inhalation Hazard) is; Dinitrophenol UN0076

Amazingly it has the same physical characteristics as those shown in the picture.

There is one other 1.1D/6 but that is a liquid and is also in the nitro family - Nitroglycerine.

Dinitrophenol is a blasting agent commonly used in "melt and pour" operations when manufacturing explosives.

Your UN0226 is for wetted with not less than 15% or more water by weight.
Your UN0072 is fro wetted with not less than 15% water by weight

You are correct about the 1.1D with a UN# beginning with 23..there ain't one I can find.

Did you see UN explosive code marking on the ammo containers, because I didn't?

Did she say a date? The articles regarding the story say April 18, but the 101st was at Al Qaqaa on April 10.

I can't recall exactly. I try to watch the MSM and do research, but I usually get so mad I forget to take notes!

Ok, here is my take

We have multiple signs pointing to the fact that these pics are NOT HMX or RDX.

We have evidence that suggests some doubt as to when the heck these pics were taken, and more importantly, where?

Freepers, we know what to do, we're not helpless. We took on Dan Rather and won. Time to get busy!

I watched the last half of the report and beat a hasty retreat. Heard Petah at the very beginning of the news show.

Ack

The ONLY 1.1D Blasting Agent in a dry form that has a subsidiary Hazard of 6. (Toxic Inhalation Hazard) is; Dinitrophenol UN0076

Explosives containing Picric Acid are toxic, and are: (1) inhalation risk (2) skin contact risk (3) extremely toxic if ingested...
This would give you your subsidiary hazard class 6..
