Report: Video Shows Explosives Went Missing After War

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - ABC News on Thursday showed video that appeared to confirm that explosives that went missing in Iraq (news - web sites) did not disappear until after the United States had taken control of the facility where they were stored.

The disappearance of the hundreds of tons of explosives from the Al Qaqaa storage facility has become a hotly contested issue in the U.S. presidential campaign.

Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) said it was an example of President Bush (news - web sites) bungling the Iraq war. Bush countered that Kerry was making wild accusations without knowing the facts.

Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) said it was possible that the explosives had been removed from the site before the U.S. forces arrived there.

ABC said the video was shot by an affiliate TV station embedded with the 101st Airborne Division when members of the division passed through the facility on April 18, nine days after the fall of Baghdad.

ABC said experts who have studied the images say the barrels seen in the video contain the high explosive HMX, and U.N. markings on the sealed containers were clear.

The barrels were found inside locked bunkers that had been sealed by inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency just before the war began, ABC reported.

The Media is determined to help Kerry with this "story." The latest polls show it is not having any effect.

Except it was less than a ton instead of 400 tons... but the MSM fails to point that out... Nor do they point out the nearly 1 million tons of explosives we DID capture or destroy. Unbelievable. This might have been the most biased day of news coverage in the history of the MSM. It was un-freakin-believable.

It's obvious this is just a political hit piece and it might well be a very effective one. Who knows.

Most people swayed by this have no capacity to analyze anything. 380 tons would fill 20-30 18 wheel semis.

Let's see, looters filled 20-30 semis under the noses of swarms of American troops, AC130's, Apaches, etc. Yeah right. Kerry knows his story is complete bull.

This is standard Kerry campaign stuff: At the end of the campaign he is always up there hurling lies and smears that can't be followed up on before the election and are never followed up after the election. This is standard Kerry playbook stuff. Just hope it doesn't work this time.

Franks is going to come out swinging on this..

It was IMPOSSIBLE for terrorist to load up 30-40 Semi tractor trailers and get that out of there while we were flying over the damn place 24 hours a day.

You'd think we'd have satellite pics of this area taken during the period after the invasion. Wouldn't we notice semi-tractors moving in and out of the area? Or even long convoys of smaller trucks and such, as claimed by one of the Iraqis?

Is that correct? Were IAEA seals found?? I looked at the video and didn't see any.

ABC stated it could not PROVE this video was from al Qa Qaa. It means nothing.

What that means is that the people who shipped out the hundreds of tons of explosives left a couple of barrels behind and the MSM is trying to make it look like this is the entire amount.

and the reporter can confirm 300+ tons of this stuff was there on that date???? counted every barrel did he? NOT!! i believe we're back to where we started - nobody really knows exact details. but it is gratifying to know the media and Dems are finally worried about the weapons in Saddam's hellhole. wish they'd be more concerned about what happened to the chemical/biological weapons the UN said were there that we haven't found yet.

Yeah... Unless you are on the left and have the ability to ignore facts, reason, logic and common sense.
