The Dispatch/The Rock Island Argus
George W. Bush deserves another four years as president. Strip away the impassioned political rhetoric and mean-spirited campaign of the past year, and there can be no other conclusion.
Yes, there are many important issues of the day -- the economy, health care, the environment, Social Security, education, to name a few. Those are complex matters that will be debated in every election for the rest of our lives. We'll be lucky to ever find anyone who can solve those problems.
This election, however, is different. The safety of our nation, our families, and our way of life are at stake. Four years ago the election was about the economy. This year it's about terrorism and our security. There's nothing stupid or deniable about that.
Which makes our decision simple. The horrific attacks of 9/11 left the nation stunned, reeling from the evil brought to our shores. President Bush proved to be exactly the leader we needed to get us through an unbelievable calamity in those early days, weeks and months.
Argue, if you wish, that we have failed to catch Osama bin Laden. But that's just a matter of time.
Argue, if you wish, about the timing of our attack on Iraq. But there's never a good time for war.
There's no argument, however, that we need to defend our country against terrorists and secure our homeland. President Bush is the better man to lead that fight. He knows we can't give up or give in, acknowledging at the same time that our sacrifices have been, and will be, heartbreaking.
We agree with his simple, yet profound, assessment of the mission: ``We will strike the terrorists abroad so we do not have to face them here at home.''
Democracy needs discourse to survive. However, John Kerry and his campaign chiefs knew their only chance was to attempt to discredit the president and ignite people's emotions against how we're fighting the war on terror. They reached new lows trying to do so in a campaign that likely comforted the terrorists.
We need, for president, the man the bad guys DON'T want in the White House. We need George W. Bush.
Good post, welcome to FR.
Holy Crap!
That's my hometown...good ol' Democrat Rock Island County.
Amazing!
welcome to FR....GOD bless you and President Bush
Is this a conservative-leaning paper, editorially-speaking?
For those not familiar with the Quad City area of Illinois, it is directly across the river from Davenport, IA. IL as is well known is a blue state. However, with a population of a quarter of a million (IA/IL combined) this could spell good news for Bush in Iowa.
outside of chicago illinois is pretty conservative state. Its just unfortunate we had a former governor who did irreprable harm to the republican party here.
Not really, but they do print op-ed pieces and letters to the editor that are pretty balanced.
They publish Krauthammer a lot, but also other Libs.
Gotcha. I'm just wondering how big a deal it is, if they normally back Dems, for example, that's a bigger deal than if they backed W last time.
I just posted an article where the newspaper, the Lebanon (TN) Democrat, is also endorsing Bush. I think that when people go to the polls, they will KNOW that a victory for Kerry will be a vidtory for the terrorists.
We always enjoy pics of conservative babes ;^)
Its not the business of government to "solve those problems", it is the personal business of every citizen. Indeed, Social Insecurity was a "problem" created by government....other than that, its a nice endorsement.
Well, well. The Quad Cities is showing some sanity! Thanks for posting this.
Welcome to FR! You done great! Wonderful news. GO GW!!
Oh well, an endorsment is an endorsment.
Great post. Could it be possible that the President actually could show up in Illinois and claim those 21 Electoral Votes from Kerry? There's still time.
Articles like this and his appearance could be just the ticket.
Thanks!!!
Very pro Lane Evans(Dem).
