MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia summoned a U.S. diplomat to protest at a Pentagon claim that Russian soldiers spirited away hundreds of tons of explosives from a site in Iraq just before the U.S. invasion, Interfax news agency said on Friday.

The missing cache of explosives has become a political hot potato in the U.S. election race, with Democratic challenger John Kerry accusing the administration of President Bush of failing to secure the site.

Operation Sandukar - Soviet SOP for sattelite nations to ditch WMDs before the West can catch them red-handed.

I was livid when I saw American forces enounter a Russian "diplomatic" convoy exiting to Syria as we invaded. We weren't allowed to stop & inspect them. If it had been my unit, I would have "misunderstood" their "diplomatic" status and checked their trunks for Saddam and WMD paper trails.

"I can officially confirm that the Ministry of Defense and the organizations that report to it could not have taken part in the disappearance of the explosives..."

So what organizations outside the Ministry of Defence moved the WMD? Hmmmmm?

Russia may want to come clean with this? Obviously they played some role or they have just ignored the reports.

"Thanks for your service"

No offense, but we get that so much, its like "have a good day"

A better way to show your appreciation for our troops would be to pester your congress-criter for perks: free tuition, pay raises, better medical care, etc.

"Operation Sandukar"

//edit: its "Sarindar". Link reposted due to relevance:

The Soviet Union and all its bloc states always had a standard operating procedure for deep sixing weapons of mass destruction — in Romanian it was codenamed "Sarindar, meaning "emergency exit."

Why is it that the US is the only country to play by the rules? If the tables had been turned and the Russians encountered a US convoy you can bet there would have been inspections and maybe even a few bodies - and all they'd say is oops, my bad. Abu Ghraib (sp ?) - we "humiliate" a few ragheads and the world goes nuts. Yet they behead scores of civilians and the world yawns. I'm tired of the US being the nice guy. Lets kill ragheads relentlessly until they yell uncle.

I would hate to be a diplomat. You know they are lying, they know they are lying, but you must remain polite and act as though they are telling the truth. I'm sick of people covering for the Russians.
