U.S. Team Took 250 Tons of Iraqi Munitions
FOXN ^ | 10/29/04 | Bret Baier, Ian McCaleb

WASHINGTON — A U.S. Army officer came forward Friday to say a team from his 3rd Infantry Division took about 250 tons of munitions and other material from the Al-Qaqaa (search) arms-storage facility soon after Saddam Hussein's regime fell in April 2003.

Explosives were part of the load taken by the team, but Major Austin Pearson was unable to say what percentage they accounted for. The material was then destroyed, he said.

The Pentagon believes the disclosure helps explain what happened to 377 tons of high explosives that the International Atomic Energy Agency said disappeared after the U.S.-led invasion.

Well, FOXN says the military took 250 tons. We've heard that there were 380 tons, and 3 tons, and lots more of lesser explosives at the site.

So, who knows?

Why is this coming out on a Friday afternoon? You use Friday afternoon to bury stories, not promote them, since Saturday is the deadest news day of the week.

These explosives were probably going to be Sunday's Dem fun fest on ABC etc.. Now what will they do? The best time to pay attention to the Dem media is in the morning...you can flush the cr** when it's over.

"This press briefing was great. Today was a good day indeed."

I agree. I'm not sure but I think Maj. Pearson's unit was assigned to the Corps Support Command, not the 3rd ID. Whatever, his account pretty much blew Kerry's allegations out the window. Anyone who still thinks looters came in and carried away that much ordnance has a real problem with reality. I trust Tommy Franks and Maj. Pearson a lot more than I trust Muhamed el Baradei.

380 or 3 tons, who gives a damn. Still thousands of tons buried in the sand or moved to Iran and Syria. We'll never get it all. Kerry is a fool for even starting this based on a UN report. The UN is crap. Should be kicked out of the Country and we withdraw.

At least it did not end up in the Baathists and terrorists hand. If it did, that would be bad.

So they took 250 tons of the munitions that were not there? I thought the Russian's took all of this before we went in.

Its not the munitions that need to be carted away and destroyed, its the insurgent scumbags. The whole country is awash in munitions, a few tons don't make much of a difference. Wrong focus here.

Sorry, sometimes I get myself caught up between what is a lie and what is the truth. I forget it doesn't matter.

It's easy. Every time Kerry opens his mouth, it's a lie.

Don't forget, the Pentagon released a de-classified photo yesterday(?)which showed some trucks at Al Ca-Ca(sp?).Photo was in March. So the Iraqis moved some out before the start of the war.
