I have just returned from sign holding for Bush/Cheney...at a busy intersection close to my neighborhood...(Florida)....
I'm so steamed, I had thought to come home and post a whole thread about it....
..but I'll just add to this one.
Thuggery is thuggery and Kerry/Edwards has it in spades!!!!!!!!!!!!
Headquarters had heard that Kerry/Edwards groups were going to be at certain streetcorners today, from 4:30 to 6:00.
....the same corners Bush/Cheney folks had staked out....and which also, a Viet Nam veteran had been standing all week.
We thought we had reinforcements to stand with us today, but when I arrived, the Viet Nam veteran was standing alone, in his uniform, with his Veterans for Bush sign....amid a sea of Kerry/Edwards people on all four corners....
...so the Veteran staked out a lone man vigil in the middle isle of the street.
A few of the Kerry/Edward folks couldn't/wouldn't even give him this, and sent some rude, crude talking people to his little middle isle.
When I arrived, thinking I would see plenty of reinforcements......he was standing alone.
For all of 2 seconds I wavered from 'he can handle it'......to 'he needs help!!!'......
...I got his attention, held up my Bush/Cheney sign, and said 'I'm with you'....
..He looked over at me, and gave a salute!
I joined him in the middle isle of the busy intersection and was proud to stand with him.
The Kerry/Edwards teams were vile, saying ugly things about our President.
You know, I strongly suspect some if not all of these folks today were not of my town!!!
I have lived in this county 30 years, and didn't recognize any of them......maybe I don't travel in their circles, or they're truly not from my burg!!!!...they didn't look homespun.
Anyway, the Veteran & I were standing alone, and I was very nervous, because the Kerry teams were yelling and arguing...arguing even with passing cars.....
...so I called my husband and told him to call headquarters to try & find reinforcements!!
My one friend, Carlie....who had stood with me through the past two weeks, arrived and she joined us......Carlie, the Veteran and myself.
My husband couldn't get reinforcements....(headquarters was busy sending out folks to walk precincts, assigning phone callers, arranging rides for the shut-ins, tracking down absentee ballots, etc).
So my husband, a Viet Nam era veteran, came down and joined us.
We were a band of 4 against approx. 75 Kerry groupies....and some of them were truly thugs.
The 4 of us had gravitated together on the intersection island, with our little Bush/Cheney signs.....
..the Kerry thugs had all 4 corners and part of the island too!
But nothing would do except two thugs, led by a thug woman, came marching over to our little spot we had staked out....and they were carrying a huge sign....
...and they pushed...pushed....pushed their way inbetween the 4 of us and held up their sign.!!!!!
I was so livid I almost forgot my religion!!!!!
The Veteran was angry too, but had no option except to move a bit onto the curb of the road because they kept pushing him.
This made my husband....a mild mannered guy, I might add.....quite angry, so he moved to stand with the Veteran.
Well, not to be outdone, I moved inbetween the Veteran and my husband, and Carlie came along side of us.
So we 4....the band of four.....stood our groud, and were garnering lots of attention and salutes, and thumbs up, and high fives and smiles and waves and horn honking!
Well, here comes Ms. & Mr. Thug and they keep pushing and pushing and pushing us until we are all practically in the street.
I am not exaggerating this!!!!
I tried to keep my temper in check, and asked, nicely, the man behind me, if he would move back a little, and give us a bit of room.....
He said 'No'....
Very soon after, a policeman arrives, and runs up to the Veteran and starts yelling at him to get out of the street.
The Veteran had had enough, and said we were pushed.
The policeman takes him aside.
Meanwhile, an older policeman arrives.....and though I don't know this, I strongly suspect he's a Viet Vet....
...He calmed the first policeman (a younger guy) down.....
..talked to the Vet....
...and came over to talk to the 3 of us.
...He was very kind and soothing.....
...but then he turned and looked at the Kerry thugs, who it was sooooo obvious they were pushing us because our backs actually touched their lousy signs....
..and he got angry and said they have all 4 corners and the middle isle.....could they back up and let us have some room.
They started arguing with him, and essentially said they didn't have to!
He told them if they pushed us into the street, he was coming back and someone was going to jail!!!!!!
Later, as he was leaving, he actually came over to the four of us, and said....
God Bless you.....that was worth the whole evening....hearing the police officer say those words!!
....These Kerry people are vile......crude.....angry.....argumentative.....rude.....and it gave me the creeps to have them at my back.
I expected any second for one of them to stick me with a pin or something....
...but I stood my ground.
When we finally left, the Veteran was yet again, standing alone.
WOW!!! Guennie, what a story! Sheesh, you guys who are in the TRENCHES with these morons truely deserve a good hot bath and a soothing back rub for all your efforts. And chocolate too
Ping
Amazing story - thanks for what you did and for the account.
Good report. It's getting late in the month, benefit checks have run out and they're out of 'blow'. Reinforcements would have been nice, but most people have jobs, families to raise, etc., it's no wonder you were outnumbered.
Just another example of the Silent Majority being shouted out by the Foulmouth Minority.
Bless you.
If you see that Vet,again, please tell him thank you from lysie in CNY.
((Guennie and King Arthur and Carlie and the proud Vet))
OMG, Guennie! Please be careful. Do you carry a cell phone with you?
The self declared party of free speech only wants free speech for themselves. Bless you for your bravery.
Good work, I'm very proud of you folks.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, and God bless all of you.
Thank you all and, especially, the Vietnam Vet standing alone.
WOW! You (and your friends) are the reason we are going to win. Brave beyond reason!
GOOD FOR YOU...for standing up to them.....if it's any consolation....a lone guy was waving a Kerry/Edwards sign on a busy street corner in our city, and I NEVER heard a SINGLE honk.....we just gave him the thumbs down....
