I definitely am surprised at this. I don't know many conservatives willing to be permanently tied to a liberal.

Don't be surprised. This is about dating, not marriage. When it comes time to tie the knot conservatives (usually) stick with other conservatives.

Not to mention the fact that in reality, the vast majority of people aren't politically oriented enough to care one way or the other. None of my friends, for example, even consider politics when it comes to women, no one cares enough to make it an issue.
