New York Daily News Endorses GW Bush
New York Daily News

Posted on 10/31/2004 4:56:01 AM PST by JLAGRAYFOX

The New York Daily News, a major New York City and State newspaper, whom normally endorses liberal Democrat candidates, has endorsed GW Bush for re-election.

TOPICS: Editorial; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: bush; dailynews; endorsement; fourmoreyears; gwb2004; zuckerman
Mr. Mort Zuckerman, the publisher of the New York Daily News had been very hawkish in support of the GW Bush campaign against terror. Mr Zuckerman is also very supportive of Mr. Bush's strong and undying support for the state of Israel. This endorsement should send a message , not only to all readers of the NY Daily News, but to the American Jewish community that there is really only one person for American Jews to support with their vote, and that is clearly George W, Bush. Any American Jew that votes for John Kerry is voting for the eventual death of the state of Israel and all Jews that reside there! Even though Mr. Zuckerman disagrees with the administration on domestic policy, Mr. Zuckerman in his wisdom gets it! You can't argue over domestic policy if there is no country there to argue over.

Returning Bush to office is the wise course, The News believes, despite our sharp disagreement with his domestic policies. Those pale in comparison with the overarching challenge of securing the nation and preserving New York's vital way of life. Of the two candidates, Bush has the clearer vision for accomplishing the goal, as well as the greater experience. He gets our endorsement.

If I didn't read it on The Daily News website I would not have believed it.

Non-New Yorkers shouldn't underestimate the meaning of this endorsement. The Daily News endorsed Clinton in 1992 and 1996 and Gore in 2000. It is the paper of the New York metropolitan area blue collar working class, including Reagan Democrats. Its influence stretches across the river into Northern New Jersey.

3 of the 4 New York City daily newspapers endorsed President Bush. (NY Suburban papers were mixed, but leaned largely to Kerry). The New York Times stands alone as the only New York City paper that just doesn't get the war on terror -- a major battle of which was fought no more than 5 miles from their glass tower.

This may not sway the New York vote, but will help in New Jersey.

Doesn't surprise me. Not the way Zuckerman's been talking on the Sunday shows (esp. McLaughlin Group) and writing every other week in U.S. Newss & World Report -- not to mention the increasingly hawkish editorials in the Daily News for the past 3 years.

I remember a time when the News was on the right and the Post was left wing. Times change. As you stated, the News has been adamantly liberal in recent years. Could it be the fact that Zuckerman owns 195 B'way and that this building suffered damage on 9/11 helped sway him? Kind of like 'a liberal is a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet.'

Amen! Those of us who know NY/NJ know this is a key sign of a EC landslide for W.

It might have. But, I believe Mort Zuckerman, with all his heart, believes that GW Bush will never, and I mean never, let anything happen or stand in the way to the continuing free state of Israel. No American President has been this supportive of Israel in all of the USA history. Mr. Zuckerman is one American Jew that gets it!!! Sadly there are millions of American Jewish voters that don't get it and will be voting for John Kerry, as well as the destruction of Israel and the destruction of themselves. I mean, all you have to do, is read the recent statement of Osama bin Laden, and you clearly see he wants all Jews eliminated from the face of this earth. How any American Jew could go to the polls and vote for a "traitor" like John kerry is beyond me!!!

I suspect this is where the Hillary factor plays in. Bottom line is if Kerry wins WH now Hillary is done. If these guys want Hillary in '08 they really have little choice.

I've been saying for a while to expect this.
Zuckerman believes in the war on terror and that Bush is the guy to fight it. I got a little nervous with his take on Bush in last weekend's editorial, but I was pretty sure where he was going.

I hope that the Heinz kid's plainly anti-semitic remarks are given some play across the river in NJ. Of the 2 parties, it is now the Democrats who suffer anti-semitism.
