CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- A study has found that air rifles, paintball pistols and BB guns injure as many as 21,000 Americans each year, undermining the notion that such weapons are harmless in the hands of young people. Nonpowder guns kill an average of four Americans yearly, and from 1990 to 2000, there were 39 such deaths -- 32 of children younger than 15, according to a report in November's issue of Pediatrics. The report, published Monday, comes just two weeks after the BB gun death of an 8-year-old South Carolina boy accidentally killed by a 13-year-old friend. The pellet pierced the boy's heart, said Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

Ban Skates first!

March 2002, there were an estimated 50,000 emergency department visits and 1,500 hospitalisation among children and adolescence in the US per year with skateboard related injuries. Skateboarders are more likely to suffer more serioes injury than inline skaters and rollers. According to a study conducted by Osberg et al (1998) 50.8% had head injuries compared to 33.7% of inline skaters and 18% of rollers skaters.

According to the Injury Severity Score, injuries to skateboarders were eight times more likely to be severe or critical compared to roller skater¹s injuries, and skateboarder¹s injuries were more than twice as likely to be severe or critical compared to inline skaters injuries. Injuries include fatalities.

Don't even get me started on ski's and Bicycles.

Bicycles kill hundreds and injure thousands every year (between 650 and 850 annual USA fatalities for most years between 1985 and 2002), but I doubt you'll see CNN advocate banning bicycles.

First they ban guns that are too small.
Then they ban guns that are too big.
Then they ban guns that are too powerful.
Then they ban guns that are too weak.

And ain't it peculiar how Democrats accuse Bush of "exploiting 9/11" when they themselves cite 9/11 in their push for more anti-gun laws?

Hypocrisy, thy name is Democrat!

My grandfather wouldn't let my mother have a BB gun -- said it was too dangerous. Waited, got her a 22 caliber rifle. Less dangerous, because she wouldn't shoot someone as a joke.

"...undermining the notion that such weapons are harmless in the hands of young people"

I can't think of anyone, among my family or friends, who might hold such a notion.

No reasonably well-adjusted person would hold any such notion.
