Contrary to reports on the Internet and the "Drudge Report", Philadelphia is not impounding any voting machines and they have found no machines with votes already on them.
A spokesman for the City Republican Committee says those reports are totally false.
The machines that someone questioned have an indicator that shows how many times the unit has been used.
That indicator has nothing to do with votes, or with anything that would tend to taint election results.
Just saw an explanation of the 'mysterious counts' on PMSNBC...it turns out that, per the Philadelphia DA, the 'mysterious numbers' are there but are explained as 'life (of the counter) counters' just like some cellphones have stored on their cellphone chip or in an electronic instrument panel in today's vehicles.
Better have them impounded to find out. The gop was supposed to sue to do so.
Without a name, this is just another of the conflicting stories.
Sort of like an odometer for a poll machine?
There are TWO odometers. The smaLL ODOMETER THAT was showing 288 votes would not be the total number. this is prolly spin.
We need to keep our eyes peeled. We need to have a keen eye for this kind of stuff. Make the Dems think twice about cheating. Well, let us hope we can keep it to a minimum.
Yeah..ok
I believe that the Philly fraud is true until I get confirmation from a reliable GOP source on the GOP website. Any rumors to the contrary I consider as Dem. spin. Once Joe Lockhart from the Kerry campaign proclaims there is no fraud in philly my instinct is to think the opposite. Lockhart is an discredited hack.
Except that the 'life counter' theory doesn't explain way most other machines don't have that. Only a small proportion of the machines have ever been used before?
Exactly.
If that's ALL it is, deduct the amount from the Democrat total.. hows that?
I would guess that there may be some older machines still in use and they don't have it. I voted in Roxborough (21/09) and mine was a fairly modern machine; touch sensitive positions where you can change everything up until you hit the big green VOTE button in the lower right corner. I think I first used this type of machine in the 2000 election.
I heard they filed a lawsuit.
Don't trust Joshua Micah Marshall as far as I can throw him..
Santorum just finished his hopes of ever becoming president..
half the stuff on drudge is false or misleading to the point of being false.
Ballot counting boxes get used over and over again...
at each election (or when practicing vote counting) the reset gets pressed.. and the number of elections a box goes through is tracked ... this is the number that shows up that people are mistaking for pre-votes.
Don't think I would either but just wanted to point out all the denials are from democrats.
