ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A deputy U.S. Marshal was arrested Tuesday on murder charges in connection with a fatal shooting last week, Montgomery County, Md., police said.

Arthur Lloyd, 53, was held without bond on charges of first-degree murder, use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence and reckless endangerment. The U.S. Marshals Service suspended him without pay. Lloyd was arrested at his home by county police.

The charges stem from an incident last Thursday night, when Lloyd was off-duty and driving with his family in his SUV in Rockville, Md., a suburb of Washington, D.C. According to police, Lloyd got into a traffic altercation with Ryan Stowers, 20, who was driving a Chevrolet Camero. Both drivers pulled into a shopping center where investigators said angry words turned into violence, when Lloyd allegedly pulled his service weapon and shot Stowers in the right leg.

Police said Stowers used his cell phone to call 911, got back in his car and began driving away when Lloyd fired numerous shots. Stowers was shot in the back and died.

Authorities said Stowers was from Redding, Calif., was in the U.S. Navy and was in the area on Navy-related business.

Would not want to arrive at Leavenworth USP, knowing I had brought many of the "residents" there myself...

Those guys dont go to Penitentiaries at least not federal. He will be farmed out to a state joint with very little publicity. Then he will be placed in protective custody for his sentence due to liability.

If it had been you or me we would have been arraigned the next morning. This guy has to be guilty as sin to be charged.

This was described on an earlier FR thread except it was before he was charged.

Note some were defending the Marshall.

He gave his life for his country. Someone had to keep the marshall in practice!

This guy will serve a minimum of 10 years and never be the same.

If the prosecutors want to get him good, they can.

He shot the victim in the back after the victim reported the crime and was trying to get away. That's murder of a witness, most states punishable by death or life without.

We'll see. U.S. Marshalls murdered Randy Weaver's son and got away with it.

You are SO SO correct. I live near where this went down, so I read a lot about it. He wasn't even arrested. He was let go while the investigation moved forward. It makes my blood boil to see that the rules of firearms use are light years apart for cops and non cops.
