Pataki won't win the nomination for the same reason that Rudy won't - because they can't win a single southern state due to their anti-gun positions and actions.

thats why i see Rudy as a VP candidate to "balance" the ticket. I like Rudy a lot despite some of his issue flaws

One would think that a dangerous combination (as it was for Carter and Clinton) is a Democratic southern-state governor, but are there currently any?

Note that this governor vs. senator thing is a knock on Obama, and he won't even have completed a full term in 2008.

What about Rick Perry, current governor of Texas? He's been very effective, strongly conservative, and he's also a babe magnet (more accurately, if I looked like him and I was single, I might be a babe magnet).
