The Globe and Mail ^ | November 4, 2004 | Jane Taber and Brian Laghi

Posted on 11/04/2004 5:46:56 AM PST by somerville

Ottawa- Prime Minister Paul Martin moved immediately yesterday to begin fixing stubborn trade irritants with a reinvigorated George W. Bush as he warned his MPs behind closed doors to use restraint when passing judgment on Mr. Bush's election victory.

But even as he raised his concerns, one of his more outspoken MPs continued to criticize the U.S. leader, referring to him yesterday as a "war-like" man....Ms. Parrish, who also said that Mr. Bush's re-election demonstrates that Americans are "out of step" with the rest of the world..

Everytime I read something like this, it just reinforces why I fled Canada for the U.S. over 4 years ago. Best decision I ever made.

They can grouse all they want, but if we turn this country around, in a generation we will absorb Canada. I know that sounds outrageous but I think it will happen in the next 50 years.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I fled Canada for the US 31 years ago and became a US citizen 20 years ago. Best decisions I ever made. Viva America !

Yes, I've heard that there is a grass roots movement in Alberta to leave Canada and become part of the US.

America is the world leader. It's everyone else that is out of step and heading over a cliff. Isolationism is looking better to me every day.

Right. the West and then the Maritimes about a decade later. The perhaps major slices of Ontario. Let them have Quebec and the Ottawa area. It will become a sort of large North American Belgium. Another 50 years after that, who knows? If we could truly implement a sustained Conservative economic agenda we would have sustained
"Tiger" growth rates. Couple that with other factors - renewed leadership in science, greatly enhanced personal freedoms, a true meritocracy, boomimg opportunities, etc. - and you will see a real movement towards the USA form Canuckistan. The Liberal Boomers will not live forever. This decade, in fact, may be their last hurrah.

Someone should ask Mr. Martin about the crew of the MV Birchglen of Canada Steamship Lines, fired from their jobs because they had the audacity to demand to be paid a fair wage.

I predict that there will be more erosion of the "Blue States" over time. I thin that the GOP understands that the "revolution" will be more of an "evolution." We just need to stick to our guns and never let our guards down. We should never forget that the Democrat party survived being on the worng side during the Civil War and came back. They are far from dead. We shall see. I have as high as hopes as I have ever had, even more than during the Reagan years. Their power base was seriously exposed this time around. Their whole power establishment tried everything short of open rebellion and it did not work. It is truly amazing, this win. An act of god, if you ask me. I am amazed that the GOP had the courage to even try it, let alone pull it off, and do so so masterfully. Talk about shock and awe.

They need to be careful up there in the frozen north. More people voted for President Bush 59.1 million than live in Canada 32.5 million.

I wonder if Carthage thought Rome was out of step with the rest of the world.
