Campaign Toast

Oh! Seattle, Seattle.
Drink a cup of Jim Jones Kool-Aid.
Call in the grief counselors.
Close the Volvo dealerships.
Break out the French wine and Prozac.
Throw yourselves on a burning pyre of stolen and vandalized Bush-Cheney yard signs.
Open your windows, hear the cheers —
Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!
And live with it!

-- Warren Peterson, Seattle

As a Washington State voter, on election night, I opened a fine bottle of Italian wine (yes we have great Washington wines, but Italy has been an allie in Iraq) and sat around in my non-name brand jeans and NRA "That dog don't Hunt" T-shirt watching the election returns.

I work all over the state and there is a reason that people from eastern washington derogatorially refer to "206'ers" which is now mostly just the Seattle area code. It is totally out of touch with the rest of the state, yet popluation wise and politically dominates elections. It use to be said that the only thing required to win a state wide election was to go up in the Space Needle and look around in all direction and then go out and make sure you got the vast majority of those voters.

After all how you anyone explain Jim McDermotts re-election.

...explain Jim McDermott's re-election.

Easy.
Seattle and environs is a one-party socialist republic.
Baghdad Jim got over 80 percent of the vote.

Baghdad Jim got over 80 percent of the vote.

Isn't that absolutely amazing! I can not comprehend what the voters must be thinking.

The spread was not too bad actually. Look at the beating Kerry got in the southern states, it was very much worse!
