This person is looking to hurt Safeway's reputation. No gorcery stores are looking for ways to screw people out of money, it is usually human error that causes overcharges. But I will say that their receipts are difficult to read and somewhat annoying.
Ralph's has a CLub Card and self checkout.
I am in grad school and the Safeway club card keeps me alive!
I have rarely/never had a problem with getting the discounts. Frankly, don't buy very much from them which is not discounted.
Hey Eggs, that is my sentiment also!! I just couldn't make it to the end.
Don't have Safeway in Indy but Wal-Mart is killing Kroger these days.
The 3-day old meats that are marked down?
I think like any store it depends on your local store. Our HEB is great - nice staff, always well marked prices.
But I only shop there when I need something "quick" - the bulk of my shopping is done at Costco for meat, cheese, butter, milk and a few frozen things - then Walmart for just about everything else. HEB is just generally too expensive.
And you noticed this at the bottom of the, uh, essay?

I tell ya, with the life of a copyright of only 70 years, better take care of your 2074 AD affairs now, before it's too late.
You are so wrong on this statement. I have never seen any stale products from HEB.
We don't have Safeway where I live - but I used to work extended periods in Butte, MT. At first I would go to the Safeway for groceries and even got one of their cards. But found that by going to SuperWalmart I could get EVERYTHING I would get at Safeway and save almost 25 percent. No more Safeway for me... It outraged me to pay their prices - even WITH the card.
Good one!
Im madd. Not only didnt I get yur Clubb prize for pork rumps I allso notis yur toillet papers deceevingly placed so the prize for 1pliers looks likk the prize for 2pliers.
Im embarass.

Safeway's fight to stop the growth of 'health plans' is beneficial to each and every individual who wishes to be free. Health plans are a foot in the door to socialism; if you need to go to the doctor, then go, but if you don't then you shouldn't have to pick up the tab for those who do.
Hey, all of his observations may be correct, however, all this teaches us is CAVEAT EMPTOR.
Measure twice, cut once.
This is a man who REALLY holds onto a gripe...based on this:

I'm not even sure Safeway was using club cards in 1997.
LOL! I assume you are joking. No one stands in the Dairy Cooler waiting to be called up for checking.
What a nut!
I shop weekly at our local Vons (Southern California Safeway stores), and I save a HUGE amount of money using two tools:
1) The Vons Club Card
and, most importantly
2) A little secret that my wife and I stumbled upon earlier this year -- http://www.thegrocerygame.com
Between coupons and club card savings, I save on average 50-60% of my grocery bill. You should see the jaws drop on the people behind me in line when my the monitor goes from a bill of $250 down to $115 in a matter of seconds...
