Military officials are investigating an incident during which an Air National Guard fighter pilot fired 20 mm rounds over South Jersey last night.
The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Officials, in announcing a news conference for this afternoon, said only that the discharge of an undetermined number rounds occurred in the airspace for the Warren Grove target range in the Pine Barrens.
But residents of Little Egg Harbor Township in Ocean County said investigators had converged on the Little Egg Harbor Intermediate School and that it apparently was related to the fighter jet incident.
The military affairs department said the jet was assigned to 113th Wing, District of Columbia Air National Guard, assigned to Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

NJ 101.5 radio also said a cannon (or something) from this plane hit a school in Little Egg Harbor.

A) Can't wait to hear it was George Bush getting some flying time.
or
B) A 21-gun victory salute from the military.

The 113th has the worst record in the Air National Guard. I suspect this was poor judgement on the part of the pilot to bring a negative light on the military.

A) Can't wait to hear it was George Bush getting some flying time. Perhaps he was out around the Suffolk Co NY 52nd Fighter Group, where his ride is parked, and wanted to get in a little stick time....

On a weapons range you have employment parameters, and for guns you must be on a specific heading to ensure your gun fan (dispersion and range of bullets) falls within the range.
I suspect a) the pilot was in the range and was doing a normal verification that the gun was "safe" before he left the range---you do this so the gun empties on the range, not on a city, or b) he screwed up.
The school may a) be a location closest to the range for admin support, or b) might have been hit.

Details?
I'm not asking for "dish," it's just that saying a unit has a bad record is vague and could use some backup.
