F-16 Fighter Fires At School In New Jersey

Incident Happened On Training Mission

LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. -- A National Guard F-16 fighter jet on a nighttime training mission Wednesday fired 25 rounds of ammunition that tore through an intermediate school. No one was injured.

The military is investigating the incident that damaged Little Egg Harbor Intermediate School shortly after 11 p.m. Police were called to the area when a custodian heard what sounded like someone running across the roof of the school. The custodian was the only person in the school at the time.

Police Chief Mark Siino on Thursday said police officers noticed punctures in the roof. Ceiling tiles had fallen into classrooms and there were scratch marks in the asphalt outside the building. The 2-inch long bullets are made of lead and do not explode, said Col. Brian Webster, commander of the 177th Fighter Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard.
It was unclear why the shots were fired, Webster said.

You know if someone vectored him in on the wrong target who knows. I hear that they can train a fighter pilot to fire even through clouds with his gun and strike a target on the ground.

Lets not be too fast in hanging the pilot.

Assuming he actually pulled the trigger. Not determined if that was the case.

Bombing through weather but not shooting a gun.

Agree. Let the investigation determine what happened.

STRIPES:

"Let's see you fire that thing."

"What azimuth, Sir?"

"Just fire the round."

"But, Sir!"

"Just fire the round."

Yeah. . .flying and shooting the A-10 was the most fun you could have with your pants on.

Yawn. Try a sunny day in the middle of the Pacific, catching an OK3, then rolling up to Cat1 for another go round after a hour of ACM against your buddy with enough gas to play for awhile before having to knock it off.

Fun? Please son. Please.

I knew a WWII vet who blew up his High School. He was first generation German whose family sent him back to Germany for secondary education during the '30's. He later graduated from Princeton and joined the Army Air Corp. When the war began he was sent to the European theater and flew a bombing mission over the town where he had gone to High School. Intelligence had cleared the school as a target as the Nazi's were now using it for military purposes. He said it was a mixed feeling to blow up his old school but, like all of his fellow pilots, he got his assignment and did his duty.

Great war story though...

Yeah. And after your last trap of the day, you shuffle off to the wardroom, grab your fifth cup of green bug juice, watch Caddyshack for the 15th time that cruise and then call it an early night for a quick session with your favorite cruise sock and hopefully a dream about being back home. I've heard ALL the cruise stories. I'll take my 10,000 foot runways, my crud games at the officer's club, Jack straight (in a beer cup), and singing songs until you can't stand up anymore. I mean, landing on a boat is cool and all...but there is so much more to life than the 3 wire.

----- > me with a big, cheese eating grin still wondering when we are going to get together for a few drinks and a stack of bar napkins.

Mike Dupuis, president of the township's Board of Education, said there were no precautions the school district could have taken to prevent such an incident.

What's wrong with you Mikey? Think outside of the box. Now every public school in Jersey can have their very own anti-aircraft battery. Just think how you and the rest of your ilk can leach off the taxpayers to finance that.

Just the fact that this 'educator' felt the need to make this statement speaks volumes.

You left out the part between the bug juice and the movie where my RIO is describing my latest incredible reversal that almost tore the wings off my bird as I rolled in behind my bud and hosed his ass.

In that you are still flying a real aircraft, you cant know how much I miss it. Right now, I would trade an Ok3 for all the poon in San Diego. I may fly the worlds coolest bus, but in the end, it is still a bus.

That day will come, my friend. But my challenge coin comes out so fast, you will be broke before we leave the bar.

Ahhhh. . .good ol Puke. . .I gotta feel sorry for ya when the high-light of your mission is the take-off or landing. . .

And BTW, BFM is something you use to shoot down the poor dumb ba$tard that tries to stop you on the way to the real targets. Just put a wing-tip in the dirt, pivot and point your gun and shoot them in the lips.

Ohhh yeaahhh. The RIO. Reason number 15,431 to fly a single seat fighter. But I'll buy you drinks all night long. Bush is President, the stock market is climbing, and with any luck I'll be killing a few more Islamic whackjobs with my landbased, single seat, single tailed, single engined killing machine before I hang up the ol' g-suit forever. Life is great, and buying an old Tomgrape driver a few drinks is never a waste of money.
