Adulation of the press.
Adulation of their peers.
Threat of a primary opponent.

Why would we do that? They don't have to worry about that until we have 60 seats in the senate

Their constituancy doesn't care if they are D or R as long as they have some influence. As a memeber of the minority party, they have NO influence.
