Gloom descends on Democrats
The Oregonian ^ | 11/04/04 | DON COLBURN and Michelle Roberts

On the morning after, across Democrat-friendly Portland, woebegone Kerry backers tried to stave off the blue-state blues.

Many appeared to be failing.

In the Portland State University student center, which a day earlier had buzzed with John Kerry optimism, the mood turned somber Wednesday as the Democrat appeared on a big-screen TV off the lobby and prepared to concede.

Bleary-eyed students milled about, sipping coffee and bottled water, shifting their backpacks, staring blankly at the screen. No high-fives, no wisecracks, no cheers, no jeers.

The day before, Matt Elder and his friends had a plan. After the first network called the race for Kerry, they would adjourn to Ringlers on Burnside and smoke victory cigars.

"No cigar," said Elder, a 21-year-old junior who watched Kerry's speech with his Mariners cap turned backwards.

First-time voters Siera Row, 19, and Randi May, 22, embraced with a hug of condolence.

In keeping with her pre-election vow in the event that President Bush won, Row was dressed in black -- down to fingernail polish. "To mourn for the loss of our country," she explained.

This stories make the election that much sweeter.

For all the depths some here felt after getting the fake exit poll results, this makes it all worthwhile....having your opposition at the height of joy only to see them crushed and defeated.

"staring blankly" --- as blank as their liberal minds.

Democrats have reason to fear. With talk of social secuirty reform, tax reform, and his walking the walk on security Bush has become:

a PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE

lets face it, conservative ideals are what will move this country forward and upward, not leftist democrat deviant ideals which only lead down the abyss.

These people are probably terrified that they will be drafted, and made to [GASP] defend the country from our current enemy.

After four years go by and no such thing happens, I predict that it will not dawn on them that Democrats lied to them.

Precisely. Man, I was feeling good all afternoon until those "exit poll" results dropped me to the depth of depression for four awful hours.

Not a big price to pay for four more years of torturing the socialists! :)

Hey honey, if you know how to read, pick up Newsweek's special on the election then tell us who would have made you mourn for the loss of our country!!!

Instead of a food for oil program, I propose a whine for oil program. We trade all of these gloomy college students and other Kerry supporters for Alberta -- they get our whining liberals, we get their oil.

Maybe next time they'll look to some different representatives to wring empathy and votes from the poor, unemployed, underemployed, disaffected, immigrant ethnic class.

Those descriptions don't exactly leap to my mind when considering John Kerry, John Edwards, Ted Kennedy, Michael Moore, Bruce Springsteen, Ben Affleck, Christopher Reeve, Barbara Streisand etc.
