CA: Newsom takes hits in S.F., national races

Locally, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom suffered the defeat of measures he backed in Tuesday's election. Nationally, leaders in his own party were saying that his stance on gay marriage inspired the conservative backlash that led a Republican president back to the White House.

But Newsom remained certain of his convictions, even though some City Hall watchers speculated that the fallout could hurt him locally and nationally.

In San Francisco, the 37-year-old mayor is highly regarded for tackling thorny issues such as homelessness and crime-plagued neighborhoods. He is considered a maverick for his stance on gay marriage, and his approval rating continues to hover around 80 percent in the city of 776,000.

Even so, that popularity didn't translate into votes for a sales tax increase and new business tax measures that Newsom stressed were crucial to closing a projected $97 million shortfall during the next 18 months. Voters also rejected a $200 million affordable housing bond that he had touted as a way to help the city address its chronic homelessness problem.

The losses didn't end there: School board candidates he endorsed failed to win, and it is still unclear whether two supervisor candidates he backed will win.

Nationally, some Democrats, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein, have criticized Newsom's decision to sanction same-sex marriages earlier this year as inspiring anti-gay amendments across the country and giving the president's conservative base a reason to go to the polls in crucial battleground states like Ohio.

During an interview on KQED's ``Forum'' radio show Thursday, Newsom admitted that Tuesday was hardly a banner day for him and joked that he hasn't been feeling too well the past few days.

.. Newsom said the accusations are a ``heavy weight'' particularly because he is a lifelong Democrat and longtime friend of Sen. John Kerry.

Newsome is a conspicuous fool who probably rivals only Edwards in his coiffure obsession.

He also should never have received a law degree, since any idiot who went to law school would know that "homosexuals" are not a "protected class", and that the test for constitutionality is the lowest threshold of "any reasonable basis" for the government to enact the law. Well, to you who are not lawyers, it means that there is nothing unconstitutional about a ban on gay marriage. NOTHING. And that is why the California Supreme Court had to slap down the City of San Fransyphilis for handing out marriage licenses illegally to gays. Newsome and the city clerk should have spend a week in the brig for that conduct.

``I failed on J, I failed on K and I failed on A,'' he said, referring to the tax measures and affordable housing bond that lost at the polls. ``But I didn't get hurt. The people of San Francisco got hurt, and that breaks my heart because I care about this city. But that's not giving up. We'll have to be more creative, and we'll find other ways.''

..' we'll find other ways.'

And WE will be ready for you and your ways.

Everyone seems to be blaming the Queers for the Democrat defeats, citing the electorate's concern about "moral values." Maybe it wasn't just Homosexuality, but also abortion!

By the way, I'd like to tell Newsom to take his agenda and "shove it where the sun don't shine," but I'm afraid that there is something else already there!

Gavin Newsom is a Republican hero. Without him, would we have 11 more states banning gay marriage? Would we have won the election by 3.5 million votes? I don't think so. He helped more than the Democrats could imagine. He woke America up to the fact that some uppity random government official can turn the institution of marriage on its head anytime they want. The Supreme court in your state can do what the massachusettes supreme court did. Then some other court can force your state to recognize gay marriage done in another state. Thank you Gavin, thank you thank you thank you. Your legacy will live on in state constitutions forever.

Gavin Newsom is a Republican hero.

Please don't forget the MA judges who gave them right to marry in that state. They also deserve our praise...

"I know that many of you wanted to see my husband and some of you had questions out there,'' Guilfoyle Newsom said.

"Is he hot? Yeah.

"Is he hung? Yeah.

"Is he (she waved her hand to suggest bisexual)? Not unless you can give a better (she mimicked eating a banana) than me,'' Guilfoyle Newsom said.

The mayoral bride's remarks have become the talk of San Francisco City Hall.

I take that as a "yes". I don't know any men who would appreciate their wives getting gay guys turned on.
