I'd swear this chick talks foul
Herald Sun ^ | 7th November 2004 | Andrew Bolt

The editor of the Sunday Herald Sun warns that some readers may be offended by the language quoted in this column.

AS MARIEKE Hardy swore through her speech on good writing, I wondered how it is we're sliding so fast into barbarity.

After all, isn't Hardy typical of a generation of activists that backs fashionable moral causes?

That should be good. Yet, also typically, Hardy's writing and speeches seem to show these new moralists have a hating heart.

Perhaps you know Hardy. She played the bit part of Rhonda Brumby on Neighbours, and as a child actor appeared in The Henderson Kids 2 and Flying Doctors.

Now she's an admired scriptwriter, working not only on Neighbours, Blue Heelers, Always Greener, Short Cuts and Something in the Air, but on Channel 7's new Last Man Standing, being made with the help of government cash.

In fact, she's so admired that she was flown last weekend to the Sydney Writers' Muster -- also backed by taxpayers' money -- to discuss: "What happened to all the risky writing?"

Here's excerpts from her published speech:

"Hello. I f...ing hate speaking in public . . . I am currently working with Ewan Burnett on [Last Man Standing] . . . and when I asked him what I should say today he suggested I read one of my old spoken-word pieces about my parents sticking pepper grinders up each other's a...s. . . .

At some stage [in Last Man Standing] we're going to have to make the hot sex on-screen. But your male lead actor . . . gets suddenly fruity about nuding up. Then your guest girls come on and get fruity about nuding up. Then the network says no . . .

So your sexy three-way that you wrote for episode eight goes from something resembling the porn film Big Trouble in Little Vagina to three people . . . stroking each other in a vaguely maternal manner . . .

In episode 11, one of the boys meets a hot girl . . . I write this in big print: "Under the table, Cameron's pants stiffen slightly . . ."

Clearly I do not expect that three months later four grown men will be standing outside my office with a hand-made stiffy machine and asking in all seriousness if I want a rock-hard sudden erection or just a gentle half-mongrel . . .

You can't say f... on our show . . . We can however, for some unfathomable reason, say the following swears . . ."

WHAT follows are 10 foul expressions including "P...-Christ", with Hardy boasting that this is the first TV series "I have managed to get the word 'c..ktard' into".

Despite this, Hardy is an activist with a social conscience. She and a friend own Polichicks, which sells Bob Brown cushions, "Sorry" necklaces and Gough Whitlam handbags. Part of the profits, she says, goes to the far-Left Refugee Action and the National Sorry Day Committee.

As I said, she backs all the faddish "moral" causes, and has many equally moral allies, with the Polichicks launch graced by former Labor Premier John Cain, a Friends of the Earth priestling and Jo Stanley, who ran the "Shag Me or Bag Me" competition on MMM.

So Hardy swims in the mainstream of the caring Left, even when she gets guests on her RRR radio show to play "their top five r..ting songs".

Yet I'm struck by how fast the Left's compassion runs out, as Hardy demonstrates. On her website, she notes how The Age attacked the editor of the student newspaper Farrago, Miranda Airey-Branson, 20, whose social sin is to vote Liberal.

"Is there some slutty sweary ladybird on-line who is an out and proud Liberal," Hardy jeers, before describing how she would sexually abuse Airey-Branson, whom she calls an "ugly ignorant c..." -- wrongly I should add. "Then I'm going to p... on her."

Elsewhere she wishes she'd told the Liberals' Bronwyn Bishop to die, and asks readers what to do with Treasurer Peter Costello's home number, which she's found. I'm not saying Hardy is evil or even unusual in using foul abuse, or exploiting sex for applause. I mention her only to show how one more "socially aware" woman, who means good and has cultural power, is unwittingly helping to push us into the abyss of despair.

Once again, bear in mind that 'Liberal' in Australia refers to the major conservative party.

I hesitated before positing this because of the language, but Bolt is one of Australia's major conservative commentators, and I think the point being made here can't be made without the quotes - which are .... etc in the original as well as here.
