They just don't get it
11/6/04

The liberal political experts and the pundits acted surprised at this past Tuesday’s election results. They want to blame abortion, gay marriage and religious extremism on the outcome. They just don’t get it, do they? We have accepted (tolerated) abortion, not because we agreed with its actions but because we respect the law of the land and as long as we could support life in our personal choices we tolerated its assault. We have accepted (tolerated) the homosexual lifestyle not because we agree with the behavior but because we believe that all men are created equal and can make lifestyle choices. Yet the mainstream was not satisfied with our simply tolerating and accepting this behavior as a lifestyle choice but attacked us by ridiculing our values on the sanctity of the home and marriage. It was not enough that we have accepted (tolerated) people of different religious beliefs but they challenged our right to have faith by attacking our simple principles of prayer, Christmas and crosses to honor the dead. Yet these issues are not the reasons for this electoral revolution. We became desensitized to these issues. Like turtles, we pulled our heads into our shells and simply adjusted to this incremental assault on our moral senses. During this past year morals resurfaced as an issue on the American political scene.

1. First there was the wardrobe malfunction. We have tolerated the MTV agenda and as long as we could change the channel, we remained disgusted, but content. Yet one of the few arenas for escape was in the football arena as represented by the Super Bowl. We could ignore or be desensitized to the assault on our “moral values” by the love of sport and our enjoyment of this national event. With the wardrobe malfunction, on one of the few venues of escape from the continuous bombardment, we could no longer take refuge in this one haven of escape.

2. Second, The Passion of the Christ received ridicule and assault on the Christian belief. A movie with a message that rallied our sensitivities and responsibilities to our mutual beliefs. After all we don’t attack the mindless pabulum that assaults our sense of decency as movie industry parades obscene language, promotes hatred and violence and commits sexual acts of private and/or indecent behavior for public consumption in the name of artistic freedom. We were content to simply choose to leave the movie theatres, refuse to rent the videos or DVD’s or not even go to the movies. Yet rather than allow us to enjoy or appreciate the message of this film, Hollywood assaulted our values with its attack on this movie and tried to ridicule our non-threatening beliefs in its attacks on this film. Hollywood was not content to simply control the movie industry but wanted to remove the haven of escape for coping with life’s difficulties and attack the message of belief, hope and faith.

3. Third, the choice between the conservative agenda of George Bush and the liberal agenda of the Democratic Party finally pushed the last button. Not only was our moral values assaulted by the liberals orchestration to nominate a man, John Kerry, who trashed one of our central principles of faith (i.e., respect for authority, government and patriotism) they organized the media in a concerted attack on these principles by ridiculing faith and truth. It was not enough that the political machine and mainstream media supported the immoral behavior of Bill Clinton, but attacked any venue that challenged his behavior as bigoted, racist and hypocritical for our revulsion of this liberal agenda. It was not enough to battle in the arena of political beliefs but they used their mainstream podium that was created and supported by the loyalty and trust of our morals, but they used this venue to produce lies and forgeries in attacks against truth. Their message was not fought in the political arena, it was fought as though there is no truth, truth is relevant only in respect to the outcome (depends upon what is, is), and truth cannot be trusted.

I truly believe that this election should be noticed as a bellwether event. Mainstream media, return to your roots or we will continue to seek and show support for talk radio and internet alternatives. Political parties, return to decency for we will not be manipulated by false attacks and character assassination. Give us laws that uphold moral principles of decency in public behavior the value of life or we will fire you and elect representatives who will. Get it now or get out of the way.

My dad is a minister here in Texas. He wrote this for the church bulletin tomorrow and I thought I would share it with you here first.

Well it's excellent, good job dad!

He should send around to a few newspapers as an op-ed (might need a wee bit of tweaking for that, just sort of a change to a more third person voice), this simple message might just penatrate some of the thick heads out on the dem side, who are really just not getting it.

He does so well to make the point that they were given tolerance, and that was not enough. The LEFT is the American taliban, nothing less than submission will satisfy them, and that they will not get. Let the gnashing of teeth continue apace!

Very good. However, I have a slightly different take on one issue:

During this past year morals resurfaced as an issue on the American political scene.

I think the morals issue started its revival on 9/11/01. The aftermath of 911 made a lot of people take stock in their lives and actually implemented same changes for the better and refocused their s[irit towards family and friends.

You are absolutely right.

I remember every detail about the morning of 911. I was at work and before the radio broke announced it I found it posted on FR (I check the headlines every so often throughout the day). I remember who I called - an ex-Navy friend of mine living in Florida. He explained that terrorists usually follow up a same scene terror act in an attempt to kill the rescuers. Then the second plane hit.

From then on, I know my outlook on life changed. I have put more energies into helping my kids' develop their young adult lives, rather than worrying whether the winds will be calm enough for me to get out and catch some stripers or blues.

I've donated more money to charities in the last three years than I have throughout my life. I've done more volunteer work in the last three years than I have in my lifetime. It is very rewarding to get that feeling that you've made a difference in someone's life. So I don't fish or golf as much - who cares.

Great post. Except it focuses on only the traditional and superficial.

I believe (and I imagine your Dad does, too) that humans are part of a larger war.

While victory is assured, a war is underway. If what I believe is correct, it is a war far beyond our understanding. We can play a positive role only when we accept the truth.

While we might be unable to grasp the details, we can grasp the truth. And therein lies our Salvation.

This is indeed a great post.

Your Dad calls for Mainstream Media to return to its roots, though, and my view is that this is not only so unlikely as to be described as impossible, but also wouldn't make any difference. Alternative New Media isn't going away and not only are people not going away from it, but more and more people are coming to it each day. It's just a matter of people finding out that it's there and that there are others "sharing the same brain" with them. They get a taste and they're finished with MSM.

I'll go back even further than that. The disgust began when our previous President taught a nation full of kids that oral sex is not really sex and that lying about sex is not only understandable, it's downright honorable--even in a court of law. And a bunch of our elected officials, who should have known better, AGREED.

Democrats are still paying for their condoning of Clinton's despicable and criminal behavior.

Great post. I actually heard a discussion from some Old Media folks on TV yesterday. They seemed bewildered about who would actually vote for GWB and decided that maybe they ought to get out and try to find out more about those people. It was amazing--as if Bush voters were some kind of space aliens or something that needed to be dissected to find out what makes them tick. It was a very telling discussion and further proof that the Old Media doesn't have a clue.
