If they had subdued Fallujah in April, we could possibly be looking at President elect Kerry. It's all a balance, but I trust Bush to let the generals determine the tactics more than any President I can remember.

Agreed. Now that Bush has won, let's hope that he allows the Military to do what has to be done.
In the end, our Troops can only give the Iraqi's the ability to govern themselves by lessening the violence they have to deal with.
However, unless we plan on brutally occupying Iraq, it will be up to the Iraqi's themselves to keep hold of their new freedoms. Freedom is never free, they are learning that firsthand now.
The next year or so will be extremely important in determining whether Iraq will join the family of free nations or retreat into chaos. I pray the people of Iraq have the fortitude to see this through. This chance will never come again for them if they fail now.
