Kyl Under Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Consideration
GrassrootsPA ^ | 11/8/04 | GrassrootsPA

Posted on 11/08/2004 12:08:08 AM PST by GeneralHavoc

Arizona Senator Jon Kyl would certainly make a great Senate Judiciary Chairman, and would be far less controversial than the liberal Specter, who conservatives trust about as far as they can throw Ted Kennedy. Kyl has a lifetime American Conservative Union rating of 97 and is well respected by leaders on the Hill.

Washington Times:

Senate staffers said last week that discussions are under way to consider whether Mr. Specter should serve as the Judiciary Committee chairman or elect an alternative committee member. Sen. Charles E. Grassley, Iowa Republican, is the most senior committee member next to the current chairman, Sen. Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, but has indicated he wants to remain the head of the powerful Senate Finance Committee.

Sen. Jon Kyl, Arizona Republican, is next after Mr. Specter in seniority and is under consideration as a prospective chairman.

I think Grasslley is inclined to stay on Finance...can't say that I blame him. I have emailed to encourage him to consider chairing Judiciary if he gets a chance.

John Kyl would make an excellent chair of the Judiciary. He is the best senator we have in Arizona. In fact I think he may make an excellent candidate for POTUS in 2008.

I am partial to Cornyn. Okay, I may be a bit biased but he does have solid experience.

ANYONE other than Specter is a win.

We all know Specter is going to try to pull something if he gets the seat, and I sure as heck don't feel comfortable having him lead the fight to get W's Judge's confirmed.

"John Kyl would make an excellent chair of the Judiciary"

I agree, and YES he is our best senator here in AZ.

GrassrootsPA also has a campaign letter from Specter re the 1996 election which says:

"I am the only Republican candidate for President who will stress the pro-choice position."

...and he says much more in that letter at:

Well let's make sure he gets the message that its safe to try and be chair. If enough people call about Specter I bet he steps forward...

Kyl and Cornyn are both fine people and they both would be excellent in fighting for W's judges.

I am partial to Cornyn.

Cornyn is a good man but he's a senate newbie. He won't likely be chairing any committees for a while.
