WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Actor Burt Reynolds (search) sued his former girlfriend Monday, alleging that she was threatening to falsely accuse him of abuse if he did not pay millions of dollars in extortion.

On a slightly different topic, whatever was it that happened to Burt Reynolds in the 80's? He's cruising along making action movies, all the sudden he disappears for at least 5 years and comes back looking like a shadow of his former self. Did he get sick or something?

He made a string of really bad movies. That's a career killer in Hollywood. Just look at Affleck.
Burt never met a woman he didn't have a major problem with. That said, Pam Seals made her own live in companion so she's not entitled to a cent bed, and now she has to lie in it.
I believe he went bankrupt..
He might just cave in just like Bill O'Reilly. And Bill hadn't done anything illegal. Even Wendy Murphy said it was extortion in Bill's case.
Reynolds was doing his own stunts when he suffered an accident while filming. The end result was TMJ and Lonnie Anderson, his wife at the time, nursed him back to health for over a year.
...which would be the only way anybody would know.
10 years as a girlfriend--notice the words "common law wife" are missing. When did he divorce from Loni Anderson? Was this the girlfriend that broke them up?
I believe that he was injured in a movie, got hooked on pain killers and left the public scene until he got his act together (or ran out of money).
Actually he did get sick, I think it was a liver problem. It was first revealed when he began working on a film with Clint Eastwood. I think the name of the movie was "Heat"
Yet but another case of WHO has the better lawyer!

Yeah, Reynolds had his jaw broken when he was hit in the face with a metal chair while filming a fight scene in the movie "Heat" with Clint Eastwood in the mid '80s.
