Blue states buzz over secession
Washington Times ^ | 11/09/04 | Joseph Curl

Posted on 11/08/2004 11:00:51 PM PST by kattracks

Secession, which didn't work very well when it was tried once before, is suddenly red hot in the blue states. In certain precincts, anyway.
One popular map circulating on the Internet shows the 19 blue states won by Sen. John Kerry — Washington, Oregon, California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Maryland and the Northeastern states — conjoined with Canada to form the "United States of Canada." The 31 red states carried by Mr. Bush are depicted as a separate nation dubbed "Jesusland." The idea isn't just a joke; one top Democrat says, "The segment of the country that pays for the federal government is now being governed by the people who don't pay for the federal government."
"Some would say, 'Oh, poor Alabama. It's cut off from the wealth infusion that it gets from New York and California,' " said Lawrence O'Donnell, a veteran Democratic insider and now senior political analyst at MSNBC. "But the more this political condition goes on at the presidential level of the red and blue states, the more you're testing the inclination of the blue states to say, 'So what?' "
Mr. O'Donnell raised the subject of secession on "The McLaughlin Group" during the weekend. "Ninety percent of the red states are welfare-client states of the federal government," said Mr. O'Donnell, who was an aide to Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

Hmmm. I heard this program. Kind of funny but I think this team likes to just stir up conflict for the business it gets them.

As a Californian, I say no thanks. On the county map a great deal of this large state is not blue. We could just annex the coastline.

If they are going to secede, they should do only secede the coastline. The 'heartland' of California, as well as in other so-called Blue States, all voted for Bush.

uh, 3 of the four upper midwest 'blue states' were only that way due to voter fraud. Illinois is only a blue state because of cook county. Plus several of them have republican legislatures.

They couldn't keep an island of blue in a sea of red. Just not feasible. So the only logical outcome would be them losing the entire midwest region and the great lakes. All the libs can relocate to the east or west coast.

Also, PA is a red state that has been stolen by libs in big cities. It will go red, too.

"Red states" vs "blue states" is misleading.

Actually, the distinction is between "red states" and "blue cities".

And, if they want to secede on that basis, they'll be getting almost all of the problems...and almost none of the solutions.

The city/state of Philadelphia, indeed!

These dopes are, as usual, not capable of thinking beyond themselves. They seem to have forgotten not one but TWO groups other than their little KerryEdwards Happy Fun Time Gang:

1. Republicans living in the blue states (like me) who have no intention of going anywhere, or of letting these morons go anywhere with OUR states, and:

2. Those who didn't vote yet who live in the blue states. This is a sizeable number of folks who I have not seen mentioned even ONCE in these discussions. If they don't care enough to vote, they sure don't care enough to succeed.

But then, the DUmmies can only think of themselves and their enemies in that black-and-white kind of thinking they accuse everyone else of having.

This is the predictably infantile, anti-intelliectual response from the Dems. Much like the precocious five year old who throws a hissy-fit after losing at a party game and stomps home, with this insanity they further cement their image to the rest of the country as spoiled, non-introspective brats who look to the Quebec secessionist movement for inspiration as the best way to run a nation. My hope is that they keep on with this for the next four years, as it will allow the Republicans to coast to an easy, nearly-uncontested victory.

The Blue state people really have a false sense of exaltedness. None of them seem to realize that food and timber come from Red areas. They don't seem to comprehend that Blue area banks loan money to Red area farmers and that Blue area software companies sell their product to Red area businesses. I'm sure none of them realize that Louisiana and Mississippi produce a large amount of the drugs that they want at low-cost, whether they buy them here in a Blue area or in their possible new Canadian homes.

Some would say, 'Oh, poor Alabama. "But the more this political condition goes on at the presidential level of the red and blue states, the more you're testing the inclination of the blue states to say, 'So what?' "

Well, we've tried cutting their taxes, but their Senators voted it down.

The notion of a wealth transfer from blue to red is because when the Federal Government makes purchases, it must do so in places that actually produce something tangible (that certainly wouldn't be NY, NJ, CT, VT, HI, DC, MD, or MA), while defense activites are credited to those states that host military bases - mostly red states. On the other hand, lots of corporations are incorporated in DE and NY, so they get credit for corporate taxes not really earned there. And the choice of large numbers of wealthy people to live in NY, LA, SF, BOS, CHI, NJ, and CT is the other reason they pay an excess of taxes, not because they are more productive.

"In a telephone interview, Mr. O'Donnell said the red states that went to Mr. Bush "collect more from the federal government than they send in. New York and California, Connecticut — the states that are blue are all the states that are paying for the bulk of everything this government does, from ... Social Security to everything else, and the people in those states don't like what this government is doing."

If the blue states would keep their old people this wouldn't be the case.

Oh, it was. 11,000 vote margin. Massive dem/527 voter registration drives with tons of stories of wrongdoing. 5,600 invalid addresses in the city of milwaukee. No ID requirement to vote. Same day registration. Lax absentee ballot standards.

If GWB didn't tap tommy thompson for HHS, he would have been governor to sign the voter ID bill, and GWB would have won wisconsin as well. Luckily that mistake didn't cost him the election.

The city/state of Philadelphia, indeed!

Watch it!

We in the Great Northeast of Philadelphia have been trying for 25 years to leave the city. Our precincts up here bleed red, but we are overwhelmed by the inner city blue from the black block vote. We have 25% of the population, but pay 50% of the taxes, while receiving 10% of the common government services like police, roads, parks, etc.

If you are going to lop off Philadelphia, please let us lop ourselves off from the city first.

Funny, really funny.

Secession implies the ability to force one's views upon others. I suppose that the new Secession will entail nuclear suicide taxi cabs from New York backed by phalanxes of low-rider chevvys from LA.

Of course, there will be the subterfuge of poisoned latte from Seattle, the poison for which will be supplied by the newly-elected Marion Berry.

Philadelphia & Pittsburgh are BLUE areas of Pennsylvania, as I'm sure you know. Hey, let em go -- as a Pennsylvanian, I for one certainly wouldn't mind since they're such a drag on the state. We could significantly reduce the state's taxes, and those urban areas could then be self sustaining. The more we talk about succession the MORE I like it.

All I can say is they aren't taking CA. It's too nice and too beautiful out here. Maybe the State Dept. can work on a diplomatic solution to get these losers permanent residency in Canada - even pay the moving costs. It would cost this country less, in the long run.

I think we could solve much of this problem by sawing off the northeast at the Hudson River and letting it join Canada.

In return, it would only be fair to receive western Canada beyond Thunder Bay to Vancouver.

Of course, what is being discussed is a very natural possible break-up coming in the not so distant future.

The fault lines will be the first foothill of the Appalachian front range on the east from the Kennebec River in Maine down to around Bull Run, down the Potomac, up the Chesapeake, and across the C&D Canal to the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic in the east, and the Coast Range north from LA to northern California, then the Cascades up to the Canadian border.

I just wrote a reply on my own blog but I'll comment here as well: I think this is VERY dangerous.

It isn't because I think they will actually secede, but because this is the start of a domestic terrorist ideology.

Whichever Democrats are left who hold any values and love of this country should denounce this RIGHT NOW. Why are they letting this continue? They know what this will lead to. Are they that power hungry that they would see people killed by anarchist bombs in the streets just to blame Bush for it all?

I know that some Democrats are that low, but there must be a few who are not. Look at Zell Miller and Ed Koch - lifelong Democrats who have some sense. And there are others as well. They must stand up and denounce this loudly. If they do not, then I really have no hope for the Democratic party. They are talking treason at this point, and it isn't funny. They can't actually gather a military force to engage in a civil war, but you all know full well what a few nut jobs inspired by this kind of crap can do with some well-planted pipe bombs.

This is incredibly dangerous and it shouldn't be the subject of jokes from the Democratic side. But all we hear from them is silence. That isn't good enough. They need to speak loudly and clearly that this will not be tolerated. As much as they hate Bush, they must not encourage this sort of thing.

Last I checked Arizona is doing pretty well (granted many of us want rid of our Dem Governor) Definitely not a welfare state (unless you count all the illegal aliens coming in across our borders. Be glad to hold on to the Colorado River water at the border and not send it on to California... except I still have family in California... also not on welfare and living in a Red county..

As a matter of fact -- I heard that San Francisco (a Blue state) has about the lowest homeownership in the country (35%) and a huge part of the population there is on assistance.

Illinois, the state of my birth, being considered a blue state makes me sick. If it wasn't for Cook County (Chicago) Illinois would be a red state.

The portion of Illinois south of I-80 should form its own state. There are a lot of people in Central and Southern Illinois who would agree with this.
