Arizona's Prop 200, which requires proof of citizenship for voter registration and application for "public benefits" and require reporting illegals attempting to acquire such services is already under attack by the MSM. The LA Times had a smear editoral on it where they called it "mean-spirited" and dragged out the guilt card claiming, "Thousands have died attempting to cross the state's forbidding terrain." They also whine that it won't be applied evenly, that it's unfair because of the history of American as an immigrant nation and all the other talking points the Left and open-border fanatics spout.

On "The John Ziegler Show" (KFI 640AM, LA 10pm-1am, M-F) I heard "The Arizona Republic" did an investigative piece using an American who has Mexican residency. He attempted to register to vote, to obtain government services and so on. In nearly all cases he was immediately asked if he was a citizen and/or had the proper documentation. Can you say HYPOCRASY, Mexico?

In case it flew under the radar, Powell and five or six other members of the Cabinet have been meeting with Vincente Fox this week. Here's Google News' coverage.

"Secretary of State Colin Powell said Tuesday that President Bush will place a high priority in his second term on granting legal status to millions of migrants who live illegally in the United States.

Powell spoke at the inaugural session of the U.S.-Mexican Bi-National Commission, which annually brings together top officials from both sides to discuss a range of cross-border issues. Powell was joined here by five other members of Bush's Cabinet.

"The president is committed to comprehensive immigration reform as a high priority in his second term, and he will work closely with our Congress to achieve this goal," Powell said, with delegations from both sides in attendance at a Foreign Ministry auditorium. And some people wonder why many of us were loathe to vote for Bush!
