Please notice that he gave money to the worst of the liberal Democrat politicians AND to the media. All of them are financial prostitutes and the masses are unable to see it. I'll bet this story received virtually NO play in the mainstream media. The truth shall set you free!
The original Kool-Aid drinkers!
> compound called Jonestown deep in the jungles of Guyana.
Hmm, do you think the Kerry followers could lease the compound for a few months? From their antics on DU recently, looks like most would be happy to drink the kool-aid.
A friend of mine lost her 5 kids and mother at Jonestown. She had left the cult before the final days.
I remember seeing the Powers Booth miniseries when I was about 11 years old. Gave me nightmares for a long time, and I even doubted all preachers for awhile after seeing it.
Actually I remember this story when it happened. It was played all over the media and the personality of Jim JOnes was analyzed ad nauseum. I believe the dead bodies at Jonestown made the cover of either Time/Newsweek or People magazine. It was actually hard to believe it was true at the time.
NOw, as far as the money connections being exposed, I cannot remember if that indeed was brought to light at the time.
Oh when I saw the headline I thought it was about BILL Jones.
Wow, you actually found the cover? Is that for real? It's been awhile you know.
They didn't commit suicide.. they were murdered. Look what happened to those who tried to escape and/or blow the whistle on JJ.
I'm thirsty for some Kool-Aid...then again I'll stick to water.
The MSM of the day treated the Jonestown saga as yet another example of the evil of organized religion. Still do. They concealed Jones' militant atheism, his mocking of "the Sky God," etc. In short, business as usual. IIRC, Rosalyn Carter was another very public fan of JJ's.
I have that copy of Newsweek.
jim jones is a wanker

I remember seeing a documentary on the Jim Jones cult maybe a year after the suicides. The thing that struck me the most is how accepting the group was of people.
According to the documentary, they reached out to people and brought them in warts and all. They taught love, they practiced love, they performed acts of kindness.
I can remember thinking.."Dang, in many ways they out-Christianed us Christians".
But even though they did out-Christian us in the short-run, their foundation was bad. And that's what ultimately resulted in their fall. Their faith wasn't in God's word, but in Jim Jones.
Their is great joy in performing acts of love and kindness, whether it is done for the right reasons or for the wrong reasons.
And like anything else, Satan can mix 95% truth with 5% lie and lead people into a disaster.
