Militants bomb Orthodox church in Baghdad, killing three and wounding 34

By Omar Sinan, Associated Press, 11/8/2004 12:46

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) Masked men detonated a bomb near an Orthodox church in southern Baghdad on Monday, and police at the scene said three people were killed and 34 wounded.

A guard at the St. Bahnam and Sheik Matti Orthodox Church in the capital's Doura neighborhood said the militants drove up in a pickup truck.

''They were all armed,'' said Khalaf Enad. ''They quickly poured out of the car, pointed their weapons at me and said 'Get in.' They opened fire for over a minute and then I heard a big explosion.''

The blast created a crater over 12 feet wide and 3 feet deep.

Church deacon Matti Qeryaqos, who lives nearby, said the explosion shattered church windows and blew the doors off their hinges, collapsing the outer wall. He said there was no service at the church at the time of the blast, and that the dead and wounded were mostly neighbors.

Catholic church damaged as bombs explode at Baghdad Orthodox churches

ROME (CNS) -- St. John's Chaldean Catholic Church was damaged Nov. 8 when car bombs went off at two Orthodox churches in Baghdad, Iraq, said Chaldean Patriarch Emmanuel-Karim Delly of Baghdad.

"This is the third time our churches -- Catholic or Orthodox -- have been attacked," the patriarch told Catholic News Service in a Nov. 9 telephone interview from Baghdad. Car bombers targeted churches in August and again in October.

>>The Crusades are coming.>>

Perhaps, but this time the Catholics will not be killing the Christians. This time, the Muslims will be killing everyone who is not Muslim.

Rev 22:12 "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. 14 "Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

Holy New Martyrs of Iraq, pray Christ-God that our souls may be saved!

Anybody else here tired of reading of Muslims bombing churches but our guys having to be careful about destroying mosques? I was just on the thread of the NYTimes (i know dumb idea) about our Marines and a mosque in Fallujah. I say desecrate the things! They aren't places of faith, they're stinkin' control centers and arsenals.

(okay, i think i'm finished ranting now - just been holding that one in)

Bush is trying to keep this from becoming a war of Islam vs. Christianity (which it already is, shhhhh). He does this by appeasing the Muslims through the (cough) respect of their religious shrines, etc. Nothing short of a dirty nuke on US soil will change this policy of ours to fight a PC war.

Yes, I know that is the "correct" answer. Tonight, I'm just ticked about it! LOL... Guess that's part of the reason why all ya'll got a chance to vote for mah neighbor and not me. He's pretty good at this. Today, I'd o' told 'em to Nuke Fallujah.

As much as I hate to admit it, we are already involved in a war against Islam. The Muslims are saying it and so is everyone except the administration. It is not "holy" because Islam is not a religion...we are fighting a war on terror and they all happen to be Muslims.

God protect the innocent Christians from evil.

Boston.com said militants, when I believe they meant terrorists. Tell Boston.com that the editing was free of charge.

I most certainly am! Until we (the collective "we" meaning the ENTIRE non-muslim world) acknowledge what the truth about this war is...then we are fighting a losing battle. So long as we believe - or pretend to believe - that these evil mohammed worshippers want anything less than complete world domination and the annihilation of ALL religions other than Islam then we cannot win. Our convictions must be stronger and we must be willing to die for OUR beliefs...whether they be freedom for all, our own religious views or even liberalism...Once we will fight to the end for what we believe in then we shall be victorious...but we cannot sit back and pretend that we are fighting ANYTHING other than the HOLIEST of Holy Wars...

The threat from the Islamofascists is the most dangerous threat to ever descend upon mankind...and as this war escalates they are showing their hand more and more and it is high time that the rest of the world wakes up and realizes that it's us or them...if we don't rid the world of their evil then they will kill us all. Some may view that as an extremist thought but all one need do is read some of their own writings and witness their actions across the globe.

There is no reasoning with them and no compromise with them. They are fighting a Holy War and thus we must fight one in return. There is no other option.

Bush has got to toss out his politically correct advisors. For those who haven't noticed, this IS a clash of civilizations. It is NOT a crusade in the conventional sense - since America is not a Christian nation, but a secular one.

I now understand why the Greeks hate the Turks so much. Why Russian expansionism pre-Soviet Union was begged for by the people of the Balkans. The Orthodox people were misused and enslaved by the so called moderate Ottoman Empire.

Bush and the world have gone out of their way to assure the world this is not a war on Islamic-ism. It should be. Europe has already surrendered. They are toast.

What the leftists and those they deceive can't seem to grasp is that there is a pattern here. It's not just the US. It is India, Russia, the Philippines, Indonesia, the Sudan, ect ... Why I wonder does the MSM rarely talk about the Sudan?

Truer words never said!

For Greeks, there is a dark gap of over 400 years during which the worst forms of cruelty and decimation were perpetrated upon the Christians of Greece and for even longer on the Christians of the Balkans.

Even worse, we have the genocides of the 20th centuries, for which Muslim Turks and their allies have never taken responsibility for. America can no longer afford to reward criminal regimes such as Turkey's, regimes that for example rarely punish the international drug cartels that operate freely in Turkey and protect terrorists who operate in other Mid eastern areas including Chechnya.

Funny that the world court has taken on Slobodan and Pinochet. Why not the leaders of say the Sudan? Or Turkey? Or is the international court only to tackle "white" criminals?

I never really understood how much Western Christianity owes to the Eastern brethren, who defended us over so many centuries.
