The religious right could well decide the coming electionTHIS November's election is about many things. It is about the future of the West, the war on Islamic terrorism, the beggar-thy-grandchildren deficit, you name it. But for the professionals who run the campaigns it is about something much bigger than any of this: refighting the last presidential election. The Democrats are hell-bent on exacting revenge for being cheated of victory in 2000. For their part, the Republicans are determined to prove that they were robbed of a clear mandate by a last-minute cock-up. Karl Rove, George Bush's chief political strategist, thought then that his man was coasting to victory; but the Democratic turnout was suddenly better than expected, and the Republican one worse. Mr Rove is particularly obsessed by the idea that 4m evangelical Christians who should have pulled the lever for Mr Bush simply stayed at home. Since then, he has done everything in his power to boost turnout among “people of faith” in general and evangelical Protestants in particular. From the Economist: The passion of the Christians |
No, But it might "Have" had an impact.
Interesting topic.
I didn't think I *could* see The Passion of Christ at first but saw it 2nd day it was out. My faith had been deep for 15 years already but that movie still moved me closer to Him. I don't see how anyone wavering in any kind of spiritual indecision could *not* have been affected by that movie. That said, I also don't see how a Christian could vote against Christian values. It had to have helped Bush's re-election IMO. Too powerful not to.
No. Nothing from Hollyweird influences my vote.
LOL
Hey, it's linked to an old thread, maybe it 'had' an impact.:)
I'm not perfect either.
Yes, Passion was a harbinger. It was not only a pointer of what was in hearts, it awakened hearts.
To be speak personally, each time I am confronted by sin, I see the images of that film.
Thanks, Mel!
Thank, You...Yeshua.
They are tacky!
No
But ...
Ignore the smallness in the world.
There is a wonderful thing (you mentioned it) that wipes out everything else. All errors are swept up in its wake.
Such an error...I should shudder and stumble...and stutter and trip...at hearing His Name...
Just hearing of Him causes me to drop everything...to return to who I have become...
Thx, Crushelits
from reading your headline, no impact on grammar...
I don't think the movie itself had any significant impact; however the response from the left decrying the film, the story of the Gospel, and Mel Gibson had a huge impact. The religious in the country without a strong interest in politics saw how their faith and views were mocked and belittled by liberal elites. This may have had an influence. But with or without the movie, Bush still kicks Kerry's rear end.
This can happen to any of us. It has to me. And they usually give me a hard time...LOL
I have not seen this movie yet, but now that it out on DVD...I plan to. I am still perplexed by people I know who say they are Christians and yet voted for Kerry. I mean for a christian it should have been a no brainer. There heart should have aslo told them.
"but now that it out"
=
but now that it is out
LOL
Deut. 28: 1) 1 "Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God: 3"Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. 4"Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. 5"Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. 6"Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. 7"The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
