EXIT MCGREEVEY, STILL IN DENIAL
New York Post ^ | 11/10/04 | ERIC FETTMANN

EVEN in saying goodbye, Jim McGreevey — who ran for governor promising to be "straight with the peo ple of New Jersey" — was anything but.

His maudlin farewell address Monday made it clear that — for all his rhetoric of emotional liberation and claims to having become a "changed man" — McGreevey doesn't really comprehend why he's leaving office more than a year ahead of schedule.

His Aeschylus quotations and New Age talk of embarking on a "journey of self-discovery" (did Dr. Phil write this speech?) were aimed less at the Garden State than at a national audience, painting himself as a victim of homophobia that had long forced him to stay closeted.

[snip]

Assembly GOP leader Alex DeCroce wasn't exaggerating: "The only people who did exceptionally well under his administration were his friends and campaign contributors."

And now, his aides.

[snip]

In his last frantic weeks as governor, McGreevey made fully 200 last-minute appointments, handing out lucrative government sinecures so that those closest to him will lead comfortable lives after he leaves office.

[snip]

Little wonder, then, that local gay groups have been loath to embrace the newly out McGreevey — rightly fearing that he's using his new status as a proud "gay American" to mask the corruption scandals that have been enveloping his governorship for a year or more.

Many New Jersey folks don't seem to understand what this man has done. I hear lots of talk about this and that, but nothing about how he placed the lives of his constituents in jeopardy.
By appointing his "Friend" to arguably the most important post in the state, ie "N.J. Security Chief" he committed the MOST egregious act imaginable. This security chief couldn't receive FBI reports regarding terrorist activity because he wasn't a US citizen. How was this man supposed to do his job effectively. By not being able to do his assigned critical duties he jeopardized many residents, especially in the northern part of the state, where many Islamic people reside. (Remember the Victory parade they held in Patterson, NJ on 9/11/01, that our dear media friends refuse to air!)

I still think the homo thing was a ploy to misdirect the press from his real crimes.
