EVEN in saying goodbye, Jim McGreevey who ran for governor promising to be "straight with the peo ple of New Jersey" was anything but.His maudlin farewell address Monday made it clear that for all his rhetoric of emotional liberation and claims to having become a "changed man" McGreevey doesn't really comprehend why he's leaving office more than a year ahead of schedule.
His Aeschylus quotations and New Age talk of embarking on a "journey of self-discovery" (did Dr. Phil write this speech?) were aimed less at the Garden State than at a national audience, painting himself as a victim of homophobia that had long forced him to stay closeted.
