TV shows - especially sitcoms - have been portraying the father as a clueless dolt for a very long time. I wonder if this has anything to do with the large number of gay men writing and producing such tripe.
Also, the ad agencies write copy to target the demographic that makes the purchasing decision on the products they are selling. Ever wonder why beer and motor vehicle ads are the only ones aimed at men? Those are the only products that the "woman of the house" does NOT decide on, according to the people who study such things.
Bingo! Hetero equals dumb. You nailed it.
Often, those ads show men as dufuses, too.
Then it would sound like, if men don't want to be ridiculed in advertising, they should take control of purchase decisions. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
I agree, this is nothing new, but just because it's become the norm doesn't make it right or something that we have to accept.
I'm tired of the constant bashing of males, well except liberal men who probably deserve it for constantly exposing their spinelessness and "sensitivity". But now that we know the majority of voting men in this country are conservatives, with money AND minds, maybe the media should look a little deeper in their efforts to sell products.
I'm a woman and I will not buy products that bash men! Just as I would not expect real men to buy products that bash women. The liberals aren't content with promoting class warfare and racial warfare, they also want to promote war between the sexes. They sure seem to have a whole lotta hate to spread around. Mrs PD.
You surely haven't seen the Chrysler ad where the mom goes around flipping the new folding seats down while the dad can't figure out how to collapse a simple stroller.
