I've even got my sweet, innocent mom emailing me daily for the truth.
Sample emails:
On the Draft: "What is the real story about this draft bill that they say Bush is going to sign?"
On the Hager FDA nomination: "HELP....is this crap or is there something to it???? I am so sick of this!!!! - Mom"
On water: "What is the truth about freezing plastic bottles of water? I got this stupid email that says it causes cancer..."
------
C'mon fellow freepers! If my mom can do it, you can too!
This is not that FAIR.
Uh, no, this is the Federation for American Immigration Reform.
Various of these "immigration reform" groups have ties to very shady organizations, much like the Aztlan/MEChA folks on the other side.
Notice how he throws the "human rights" part in there? It will be used to justify the amnest he isn't talking about.
He doesn't have to use the word amnesty. He just has to say he is supporting human rights - ala Jimmy Carter.
Immigration reform was proposed by President Bush a year ago, nothing new here.
What "FAIR" calls amnesty, the rest of us call it immigration reform.
If I recall correctly, we have always had semi-open borders with Mexico. We had very few border checkpoints until the 1920s.
Then when we clamped down on immigration from Europe, Mexicans were exempted from those quotas.
Later when Mexicans were subjected to the quota system if they wanted to relocate as US permanent residents, they were given a break with the 'bracero' program.
The current mess at our border is the result of an insane border policy. As long as American businesses need unskilled labor, Mexicans will cross the border.
We either do it legally with a temporary workers' program, or we do it illegally by keeping the status quo. Capitalism always beats unreasonable government constraints.
The Mexican paradox is that when Mexicans are allowed to work as guest workers, they tend to leave their families and Mexico and return after making enough money to be middle class in Mexico.
When Mexicans are not allowed to have a temporary legal status in the US, they tend to stay and bring their families, artificially increasing the Mexican migration to the US. Such artificial and unnatural increase leads to a lot of economic and social problems in our border areas and large cities.
I hope rational folks will deal with this issue calmly, looking for a solution that it's best for our country, instead of getting emotionally entangled in intractable demands. Our historical ties to Mexico and our traditional border movements will have to be considered to make any new reform useful.
My $0.02
Can you still see all of those black helicopters when you're wearing that much tin foil?
They have to be EARNED; that's not blanket amnesty.
That's not the same group.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is a national, nonprofit, public-interest, membership organization of concerned citizens who share a common belief that our nation's immigration policies must be reformed to serve the national interest.
FAIR seeks to improve border security, to stop illegal immigration, and to promote immigration levels consistent with the national interestmore traditional rates of about 300,000 a year.
With more than 70,000 members nationwide, FAIR is a non-partisan group whose membership runs the gamut from liberal to conservative. Our grassroots networks help concerned citizens use their voices to speak up for effective, sensible immigration policies that work for Americas best interests.
FAIRs publications and research are used by academics and government officials in preparing new legislation. National and international media regularly turn to us to understand the latest immigration developments and to shed light on this complex subject. FAIR has been called to testify on immigration bills before Congress more than any organization in America.
Click here for highlights of FAIR's accomplishments in 2003.
Stein is hysterical. This is not an amnesty, and never was.
I lost a job to the 19 guys who flew the airplanes on 911.
OOOOOHHHHH! How clever. I also noticed you don't deny that he will do it.
No, they're not racist. However, one of their principle opponents, the "National Council of The Race (aka. La Raza)" IS racist to the core. They are a leftist group funded by larger leftist groups.
I don't know about you, but I'm getting really tired of telling other conservatives exactly that.
You're right. Bush will never call for something he calls an "Amnesty" despite the fact that what he is calling for is really a form of amnesty.
I don't know if FAIR is a racist organization. But I know that groups like La Raza, LULAC, MALDEF, and MEChA, who are continually pushing for amnesty and more rights for illegal alien lawbreakers, are racist organizations.
You would think some of these people would have learned that Bush says EXACTLY what he means and does EXACTLY what he says.
You noticed that I thought that by your very own self, without even asking me?! Oh please.
President Bush's immigration reform plan *registers* illegals with the federal government, a far cry from leaving them all anonymous as they are today. His plan also makes them pay a fine.
How many real "amnesties" involve paying a fine (answer: none)?
Don't look now, but it is already there.
"vote overwhelmingly socialist"
Bush got 42% of the Hispanic vote nationally, and in Florida he got 80% of the cuban vote. The response of the republican party in the coming years to Bush's policy can EASILY expand that margin.
