Reporter's Notebook: Saddam's 'Killing Field'

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The images were shocking.

A trench with piles of clothed bodies packed tightly together. Men, women, little children. Even unborn children. Some blindfolded. Some with their hands bound. All slaughtered in cold blood by the henchmen of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein (search).

All of this horror was discovered in another mass grave in the desert wasteland of northwestern Iraq, near the town of Hatra. It was discovered a year ago, and only now is it being carefully and scientifically excavated by the Regime Crimes Liaison Office (search). This agency, part of the U.S. Justice Department, is working with the Iraqi interim government to map out the horrors of the Hussein past.

The head of the unit, Greg Kehoe, who has seen more than his share of horrors in places such as the Balkans, couldn’t believe what he saw.

"I’ve never seen women and children executed, defenseless people executed in this fashion," he said. "I mean, you look at a young woman holding her 2-year-old child with a gunshot wound to the back of the head. I can’t find any reason to justify that."

Of course, the DUmmies aren't concerned with the loss of innocent life, as long as those lives are being taken by brutal dictators. From Stalin, to Mao, to Castro and now Hussein, no attrocity is too great to be overlooked by the left, as long as those attrocities are being committed by their anti-American soul mates.

The Iraqis who did this are the ones outraged by their loss of power and desperately afraid that they'll be called to account for it. They're the ones we're shooting in Falluja right now.

Why is Fox News writing about this? Nobody cares!

Bush voters already know all about this.

Kerry voters don't know and don't want to know -- it would upset their delicately constructed world, in which Republicans are the real villains. They don't care about dead kids, or what their last hours on earth were like.

They can't help themselves. The Left falls into a swoon over anyone who shakes his fist at the Great Capitalist Satan. They're kind of like those women who fall for guys in jail.

Keep up the good work, Greg Palkot. This man's seen and expereinced quite a bit for a reporter. He's now in the thick of it in Fallujah.

Unless, of course, a Democrat president prosecutes a war. Than everything's honky-dory...including civilain deaths.

Even unborn children.

Well, shoot! The lins know their own, don't they? Guess that's why they were against any anti-Saddam intervention -- "It's 'for' the (wanted, by parents and state) children, right?"

(And if the state doesn't want you, you're toast. Lemmee see, where have we we seen that before -- Pol Pot's Cambodia, Hitler's Germany... you add to the list. Gotta love these liberal statists.)

"Why is Fox News writing about this? Nobody cares!"

I would tend to agree. But for those that may be slightly inclined to wonder where this town Hatra is located:

If you look at a map of Iraq and go to Mosul. Move down on a bearing of approx. 195 degress some 65 miles south and that is where the town is located. Heaven only knows how many more of these mass murder sites will show up in the years to come.

Remember when all the left-wing pinkos took out the full page ad "Not in OUR Name"?

This got stopped, but it wasn't in THEIR name!

Someone should publish another ad stating that.
