What About Those Pro-Abortion Catholics? The Election Is Over; The Scandal Remains
U.S. Newswire ^ | Thursday, November 11, 2004 | Amber Matchen

Posted on 11/11/2004 9:35:24 AM PST by presidio9

"Even though the elections are now over, and politicians are no longer using the Mass as a photo op, pro-abortion Catholic public figures continue to spit in the face of the Church by supporting the heinous act of child killing while proudly taking their place in the Communion line," said American Life League president Judie Brown. "The problem has not gone away. All the bishops must take action and must do so now!"

American Life League's Crusade for the Defense of Our Catholic Church has been actively exposing the scandal of pro-abortion Catholic public figures and the reception of Holy Communion for almost two years now. "Last year at the Washington, D.C. bishops' meeting, not one bishop was willing to commit to withhold Holy Communion from pro-abortion Catholic public figures," said Brown. "As the bishops convene this year, at least 10 courageous shepherds of the Church have taken strong stances to defend the faith by withholding Holy Communion from those public figures who support abortion. Obviously, we're very grateful to those bishops who have stepped forward. But we still have a long way to go."

With the defeat of Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites), the most pro-abortion Catholic public figure to ever make a run for the White House, it is feared that many bishops may think the pressure has subsided enough for them to overlook this most serious matter. "The Catholic bishops of the United States have a moral obligation to teach the truth, to preach it without apology and to defend it unto death," said Brown. "This has absolutely nothing to do with politics and everything to do with the fact that one cannot be both Catholic and pro-abortion."

American Life League will run a full-page ad in Tuesday's Washington Times, reminding both the bishops and the laity that every human being must be loved, protected and respected from fertilization until natural death. "As the bishops meet next week, we implore them to immediately respond to this ongoing crisis and protect the many lives and souls who are dangerously at risk," said Brown.

It is the mothers who have the abortion not the politicians. The Church has to concentrate on changing the 'hearts and minds' of the mothers and the politicians will follow.

The Church has to do it's job and not off-load it to politicians. Perhaps at the same time they could take on shacking up.

Didn't over 50% of Catholics vote for Kerry? What were they thinking?

Actually not. Bush got the majority of the Catholic vote this time and a very large majority of the practicing Catholic vote.

As my bumper sticker states:

YOU CAN'T BE CATHOLIC AND PRO ABORTION

What you are referring to - are those "baptized" as Catholics and never went to church again except on Christmas and Easter. The church know about these and we always pray for them so that perhaps someday they can see what they are. Catholics are taught to love (1) God, (2) their country and (3) themselves as their neighbors. This is the sequence of love. If they change the sequence they better face the mirror every morning.

One of the most offensive things I've seen recently was Ahnold's 60 Minutes profile where he mindlessly claimed to be pro-abortion and pro-embryonic stem cell research and pro-embryonic cloning -- even at the expense of pro-life taxpayers, but had the audacity to dismiss criticism with a "Hey, I go to church every Sunday!"

Puke on the One-Term Terminator and the corrupt LA Archdiocese that allows him communion!

Psalm 139:13-16
For thou hast possessed my reins:
thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise thee;
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvellous are thy works;
and that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee,
when I was made in secret,
and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect;
and in thy book all my members were written,
which in continuance were fashioned,
when as yet there was none of them.

Before the Church can address the scandal of pro-abort “Catholics,” the Church must cleanse itself. Bishops such as Mahony, McCarrick, Gumbleton, Brunett, Gregory, Flynn, and numerous others must be put out to pasture. As long as we have bishops who lack the moral courage to follow and enforce Church teachings, the scandal mongers will not be dealt with.

"Perhaps at the same time they could take on shacking up."

When I converted, one of the steps we went through were three “scrutinies of catechumens.” For these scrutinies, a pamphlet was prepared and each catechumen wrote a statement about themselves for inclusion in the pamphlet; a pamphlet was given to each parishioner as they entered Church. One of the catechumens wrote about his “living with” his “girlfriend” of so many years. Neither the priest nor the RCIA director ever talked to him about it.

There are no true Catholics who believe in abortion.

If someone does not believe in the canons of the Church nor in the Holy Bible, they are NOT members of that Church.

Clinton and his anti-Christ cadre (john what's-his-face, kennedy,etc) fall into the scumbag lawyer lies of "it depends on what the meaning of the word "IS" is."

Wouldn't it be nice when all lawyers have gone?

Seems to me, it's time to lobby the USCCB. We spoke at the polls, now, let's share our thoughts with the bishops, especially as they prepare to elect a new President.

USCCB LIST OF BISHOPS

And, just in case the bishops need a little nudge, you can quote the Catechism.

RIGHT TO LIFE
2270 Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person -- among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.

Catholic Ping - please freepmail me if you want on/off this list

Actually you are only 1/2 right. On the part you are wrong. The Church has a duty to correct its members when they are wrong and in sin. This is the case the Bishops are in for those "Catholic" politicians that publicly support an intrinsic evil such as abortion. This has nothing to do with politics, but about members of the Catholic Church who are publicly out of communion with her and the responsiblity of her shepards to correct or excommunicate them.

Yes on the 1/2 you are correct, the Church needs to educate its members better to the meaning of the Faith (not just the women since they got that way with a man involved...there was only 1 Virgin Conception), purity, chastity, and the other virtues. If they applied themself to the Faith and programs for it as much as they put effort and time into social justice and other secular issues, then the body of the Faithful would have a change of heart (metanoia).

You know!
If the Bishops wanted all of us to know about the teachings of the church, they would put no copyright on the churches to reproduce the Catechism in their bulletins!!!!

As I looked on this site, I was happy to see the teachings on the Sacraments. Then I saw the copyright!

I could probably convince my DRE to print these instructions in our Bulletin if they were free. Maybe. Maybe not.
