Linda Schrenko indicted on theft charges
Augusta Chronicle ^ | November 19, 2004 | Daniel Yee, AP

ATLANTA - A federal grand jury has returned an 18-count indictment charging former state schools Superintendent Linda Schrenko with stealing more than $500,000 in federal education funds. About half of that money went to Schrenko's failed bid for the Republican nomination for governor in 2002, said acting U.S. Attorney Sally Yates.

Merle Temple, the state's former deputy superintendent and Schrenko's gubernatorial campaign manager, and Stephan Botes, the owner of a computer consulting company, also are charged in the indictment, Yates said.

Schrenko is expected to make an initial appearance before a magistrate judge in Atlanta on Monday.

FoxNews reported that a significant amount of the $$ went to pay for Linda's new face lift.

I remember her ads during her bid for governor. Can't anyone do anything above-board anymore? Sheesh.

I live in Atlanta, and we all know she's an idiot. Just glad Perdue won the governorship in '02 and not her.

Oh, I agree - I voted for Perdue. We lived in Atlanta until two months ago.

I wasn't able to vote in the Republican primary that year as I opted to vote in the Dim primary in a bid to unseat Cynthia McNinney. We were successful. Unfortunately, that all reverted back this year thanks to Majette thinking she had a shot at Zell Miller's post. What a ditz.

Absolutely. I thought it was a brilliant move ousting that wench Cynthia McKinney, and cutesy little Majette made herself look so innocent. Of course, it turns out they're both evil libs and I'm glad Majette was beat, but disheartened that McKinney is back. Thank God i don't live in the 4th district!!!

We, unfortunately, did.

Of course, it turns out they're both evil libs

Knowing a Republican had a snowball's chance in the 4th, we did the next best thing - pulled off an "anybody-but-McNinney" election. Majette showed her true colors after getting into office - her "victory" swelled her head very predictably. But, she was still a darned sight better than jihad-Cindy.

My thoughts exactly, PKP. She comes across as a bimbo. I laughed when I heard she was running for GA Gov. Now, to hear that she's in trouble for misappropriation of funds. I guess I misjudged her...apparently she is much smarter than I thought. Oh well, she can follow Jim Bakker's example and teach inmates how to read, if she doesn't escape justice ala O.J. Simpson.

Why do people think they can get away with schemes like this???

Had she been a democrat, especially, a black democrat, we would able to learn from this, put it behind us, and move on. But, since she is a Republican, she's going to do hard time!

Bring back the practice of tar and feathering.

Oh, no doubt about it. Jackie Barrett (African American sheriff of Fulton County [Atlanta]) did essentially the same thing and basically got a 90-day paid vacation. She was replaced in the general election, fortunately.

Maybe they can get her the cell next to NC's Meg Scott Phipps, the crooked poll that was so dumb she took shoeboxes of bribe money to the bank and put em in her checking account.

I know you are pointing out the double standard that the press applies but Linda needs to be gone after. I can't stomach politicians or those in authority ripping off a half million from the taxpayers. No matter what party.
