Dutch government officials responsible for security announced that the government may close mosques if it considers them a threat to order. More money was requested for the security services to monitor suspicious persons and to protect endangered persons and property. Johan Remkes minister of internal affairs, Piet Hein Donner minister of justice and Rita Verdonk immigration minister presented their proposals at the Parliament Thursday following the murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh by moslem extremists, and the wave of racial and religious violence which followed. Dual citizenship holders considered dangerous are to be stripped of their Dutch citizenship, and radical Imams will no longer be allowed into the Netherlands. Radical Imams already in Holland will be expelled from the country. Several Dutch politicians have received death threats, and mosques, churches and church schools have been attacked. In the harbor city of Rotterdam Molotov cocktails were thrown against a church. In Utrecht there was an attempt to burn down a church.

The problem is not the non-residents, it is people like the murderer of Theo van Gogh who is a Dutch citizen. They are already European citizens. He can move anywhere in the EU without a passport and live anywhere he wants. Many of the radicalized young Arabs are second and even third generation Europeans. They will be much harder to detect and stop.

This is only common sense. Freedom must have limits or it becomes license.

While I agree with your contempt for the EUros, the Dutch have been good allies in the WOT.

They're fighting for their lives against the same enemy we are.

Yes, you are right. But I believe under Dutch law they can revoke citizenship in such cases, make an individual stateless, and boot them out. I would not be surprised to see that plan of attack by the Dutch.

I know the US did that recently with the Saudi/American Al-Hamdi picked up in Afghanistan, but that was a different case than the murderer of Van Gogh.

Al-Hamdi was born in the US of Saudi parents, hence he became an American citizen. But he lived all his life except his infancy in Saudi Arabia. He has now been returned to Saudi Arabia, scott-free, but had to renounce his citizenship.

I imagine in the Dutch case since he was born and raised in the Netherlands, the murderer's lawyers would raise a major legal action against deportation. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
