I've been thinking about all the comments from the esteemed columnists like Herbert and Dowd regarding our inherent retardedness....
I think it's time for some Red State affirmative action. Obviously we should be given special privileges and access to higher education. The blue states and their residents being smart enough already, should just step aside.

I think an education is worth what the person brings to it. We live in a world where some people are lazy, hate their work, think they know it all, cheat, lie, etc. Somehow people think that if you've got a degree it instantly makes you a better person overall. In my experience it means you have a lot of knowledge about a subject--period. If you went into that educational process as an intelligent open-minded person you will be an intelligent open-minded person who knows more about that subject. If you went in a hateful moron, you'll be a hateful moron who knows about plankton, or whatever.

Yeah, that's about it.
"In my experience it means you have a lot of knowledge about a subject--period."
Or, in the case of a liberal arts education, a little knowledge about a lot of subjects.
