Bork the Dork!!

Posted on 11/12/2004 7:35:48 AM PST by SeasideSparrow

We need to keep the pressure on the Senate to STOP SPECTER from chairing the Judiciary Committee!! Within 24 hours after the presidential results were in, the Senate Judiciary Committee heir-apparent, Pennsylvania liberal Republican Arlen Specter, warned Bush NOT to make conservative nominations to the U.S. Supreme court. The last thing we need is for pro-gun and pro-life Supreme Court nominees to be blocked by a liberal Republican Chairman!

We can make a difference: There is no Senate rule which guarantees Specter the chairmanship of the Senate Judiciary Committee. If Specter gets in he'll block Bush’s nominees from even getting a Senate vote. The new chairman will be chosen, first, by a majority of the Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and, then, by a majority of all Senate Republicans.

Thus, it is well within the rights of Senate Republicans to award the Judiciary Committee post to current-chairman Orrin Hatch, Iowa’s Chuck Grassley, Arizona’s Jon Kyl, or Alabama’s Jeff Sessions. Any of these men would presumably support Bush’s conservative pro-gun and pro-life nominees, rather than oppose them.

ACTION: Contact your Republican senator(s). Ask him or her to vote against naming anti-gun and pro-abortion Senator Arlen Specter as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Call the following senators and spread the word to friends!

This is a travesty trying to happen -- my emails have been burning the ears of the White House for weeks...Specter should be placed in a Dempsey Dumpster somewhere...he is another loonie that has lost control in the Washington hill utopia of power-in-lieu-of-substance environment.

If Bush lets this happen, he will hear things that he never thought his voters would ever say...

I agree. I was inclined to leave it to Bush and Rove to handle the matter.

But Rove has already demonstrated a lack of good faith in this matter. Rove is the jerk who persuaded Bush and Santorum to back Specter for the Senate. He is the jerk who wound up losing Pennsylvania for Bush. Specter, as usual, took their help and then gave them the back of his hand, refusing to campaign for Bush in Pennsylvania. According to NRO, Specter even issued campaign flyers telling people to vote for Kerry/Specter.

Specter might behave for a while. But as soon as he sees an opportunity, he will bolt for the exit. And that opportunity will certainly arise a few years down the line.

No, we don't need this jerk as chair of the Judiciary Committee. In fact, we don't need this jerk in the senate, and it is a pity he was ever returned to it.

This is a live wire issue. If Specter is given this job, or if Bush appoints a pro-abortion justice to SCOTUS, the Republicans will be creamed in the midterm congressional elections and will lose in 2008. Judicial appointments are the bottom line.
