Me: >We do not believe that there is any other issue on Earth that compares with abortion in moral import.

You: With all respect, and in full agreement with your position on abortion, I would remind you that if we do not will the war against radical Islam, abortion will cease to be an issue for Christians, because all the Christians will be dead.
Abortion is a critically important issue. Survival of us as a people and US as a country is more important, right now!

My Response: With all due respect, no.
"What does it profit a man to gain the whole world if he loses his soul?"

The US has to win the War on Terror, there is no doubt about that. Otherwise, a lot of innocent people will die. But 44 million Americans have already died in the Holocaust of Infants. If the Democrats had won and beat a retreat from the Middle East, and exposed us to more terrorist attacks, it would take 15,000 September 11ths to catch up with the death toll of the American Holocaust of Infants.
It would take 400 Hiroshimas to equal the death toll of the American Holocaust of Infants.
It would take 3 Nazi Holocausts, or 13 Auschwitzes, to equal the death toll of the American Holocaust of Infants.

Winning the War on Terror is of enormous importance.
Ending the American Holocaust of Infants is an even greater moral imperative.

Of course, these two necessary ends need not compete.
The Republican Party can lead us to victory in both.
But to win the War on Terror, they have to stay in power in America, and to stay in power in America, they have to use their judicial nominations to put pro-choice judges in the high courts, like they promised us.

The War on Terror will only be in jeopardy of being lost if the Republicans lose control of the American government.
The Republicans are only in danger of losing control of the American government if the pro-life religious vote stays home in the next elections, and the pro-life vote will only stay home if it has been betrayed by the Republicans on the issue of judges.

Therefore, if one is worried about the War on Terror, and believes that the Republicans need to stay in command in order to win it, as I am and do, then one must redouble one's efforts to make sure that the Republicans sweep aside Specter NOW, and that they either change the Senate rules or use the nuclear option to put through the pro-life judges nominated by the President, soon.

The War on Terror is not a negotiating chip on abortion. There is no issue more morally important than abortion.

Therefore, instead of trying to maneuver and find a bargaining chip when there is absolutely none, including the War, the Republicans need to just cave. Stop resisting and cave. Get Specter out of there, and then there will be no danger of loss of any of the rest of the agenda, including the War on Terror.

That's the way it is, and nothing is going to change it.

Brazil does not permit abortion, yet there are over a million a year there.

Would you really trade dictatorship for a ban on abortions and the sad fact of underground abortion mills?

Abortion is NOT the gulags, nor will it ever be to most sane people, no matter how abhorrent we find the practice.

This is why a few pro-life people really are not conservatives except on that issue. That you'd betray the principles of the party for ONE issue(ANY issue) says a lot, I think.

"Those who hold the reins of government should not forget that it is the duty of public authority ... to defend the lives of the innocent ... among whom we must mention in the first place infants hidden in the mother's womb. And if the public magistrates ... do not defend them, but by their laws and ordinances betray them to death at the hands of doctors and others, let them remember that God is the Judge and Avenger of innocent blood which cries from earth to heaven" (Pope Pius XI Casti Connubii No. 67, Dec. 31, 1930).

Well said. We are in complete agreement.

The War on Terror is not morally equivalent to the American Holocaust.

One is being perpetrated on us by foreign powers. The other, we are perpetrating as a nation upon the unborn. This is evil we as a nation are committing on a daily basis. To argue that we are an innocent and morally pure nation before a just and holy God is deluded and mindless.

We have blood on our hands. We are the guilty nation.
