Secret EU plot to kill Nato

Secret EU plot to kill Nato By NIC CECIL Political Correspondent

A SECRET EU plot to wreck Nato and torpedo the UK’s influence in Europe was sensationally laid bare by Spain’s Prime Minister yesterday.

He vowed his country would stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow Iraq war weasels France and Germany — to dictate a common EU defence policy that would leave Britain sidelined.

Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero brazenly declared the ultimate aim was to challenge America.

He declared: “Europe must believe that it can be in 20 years the most important world power. We want to arrange the European future at the side of France and Germany. Spain sees itself with France and Germany as never before.”

His comments were a huge blow to Tony Blair, who has fought to make the UK, Germany and France the key power-trio in Europe.

Zapatero was quizzed by German magazine Der Spiegel about the EU’s continuing need for US troops to deal with crises in the Balkans under the Nato umbrella.

He said: “Naturally it will still last some time, until we develop a closed defence policy. That can happen only after the agreement on a common foreign policy. The EU constitution is an important step in this direction.

“In 15 to 20 years we will surely have a foreign service for the EU.”

Socialist Zapatero — slammed for surrendering to terrorist demands when he withdrew Spanish troops from Iraq — said the constitution was a “milestone” on the road to a European military and economic superpower.

Shadow Foreign Secretary Michael Ancram stormed: “This is yet another example of the real EU agenda of the EU constitution. It makes a nonsense of Tony Blair’s claims to have achieved an EU constitution which preserves national sovereignty.”

Neil O’Brien, of anti-EU constitution group Vote No, said: “Tony Blair has been suckered into signing an EU constitution which would make it hard for Britain to work with the US.”

Yesterday Zapatero and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder agreed to boost defence co-operation over tanks, torpedoes and missiles.

The Spanish PM insisted in his interview that he wanted closer relations with the US — as long as there was an end to the war in Iraq and a greater role for the UN.

But President George Bush showed what he thought of him when Zapatero phoned to congratulate him on his election victory. Mr Bush refused to come on the line.

Speaking of the EU plot to kill NATO...Can anyone guess which Soviet Defecter wrote the following in 1984?

Pages 340-342: “The dissident movement is now being prepared for the most important aspect of its strategic role, which will be to persuade the West of the authenticity of Soviet ‘liberalization’ when it comes. Further high-level defectors, or ‘official émigrés’, may well make their appearance in the West before the switch in policy occurs.” “The prediction of Soviet compliance with the Helsinki agreements is based on the fact that it was the Warsaw Pact countries and a Soviet [agent of influence] who initiated and pressed for the [negotiations]…” “‘Liberalization’ in Eastern Europe would probably involve the return to power in Czechoslovakia of Dubcek and his associates. If it should be extended to East Germany, demolition of the Berlin Wall might even be contemplated…” “Western acceptance of the new ‘liberalization’ as genuine would create favorable conditions for the fulfillment of Communist strategy for the United States, Western Europe, and even, perhaps, Japan… Euro-Communism would be revived. The pressure for united fronts between Communist and socialist parties and trade unions at the national and international level would be intensified.” “This time, the socialists might finally fall into the trap. United front governments under strong Communist influence might well come to power in France, Italy, and possibly other countries. Elsewhere the fortunes and influence of Communist Parties would be much revived. The bulk of Europe might well turn to left-wing socialism, leaving only a few pockets of conservative resistance.” “Pressure could well grow for a solution of the German problem in which some form of confederation between East and West Germany would be combined with neutralization of the whole and a treaty of friendship with the Soviet Union. France and Italy, under united front governments, would throw in their lot with Germany and the Soviet Union. Britain would be confronted with a choice between a neutral Europe and the United States.” “NATO could hardly survive this process. The Czechoslovaks, in contrast with their performance in 1968, might well take the initiative, along with the Romanians and Yugoslavs, in proposing (in the Helsinki context) the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact in return for the dissolution of NATO.” “The disappearance of the Warsaw Pact would have little effect on the coordination of the Communist bloc, but the dissolution of NATO could well mean the departure of American forces from the European continent and a closer European alignment with a ‘liberalized’ Soviet Bloc. Perhaps in the long run, a similar process might affect the relationship between the United States and Japan leading to abrogation of the security pact between them.” “The EEC [EU] on present lines, even if enlarged, would be a barrier to the neutralization of Europe and the withdrawal of American troops…” “The efforts by the Yugoslavs and Romanians to create stronger links with the EEC should be seen, not as inimical to Soviet interests, but as the first step in laying the foundations for the merger between EEC and COMECON. The European Parliament might become an all-European socialist parliament with representation form the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. ‘Europe from the Atlantic to the Urals’ would turn out to be neutral, socialist Europe.” “The United States, betrayed by her former European allies, would tend to withdraw into fortress America or, with the few remaining conservative countries, including perhaps Japan, would seek and alliance with China as the only counterweight to Soviet power.”

i don't know.... this wasn't a secret. France has proposed several times to establish a non-NATO force for Europe. They've been pushing this for a while now.

Brazen? Delusional, actually. Europe is more likely to be collectively bowing to Mecca than challenging the U.S.

Talk about Penis Envy.

I guess the first question that comes to mind is "How ya gonna pay for that there, Spanky?"

These folks are on the fast track to, yet another European war.

If you're alluding to Orwell's 1984, you mean Oceania and Eurasia.

Fine. Can't blame them for wanting to be globally relevant. But if they think they're going to do it with socialist economies-- won't happen.

In any event, Spain, if you plan to undermine US and British influnce by destroying NATO, just don't call us the next time you devolve into internicean warfare with your "partners."

Yes! I would be happy if the UK were to come closer to the US, if the Euro-commie plan comes to fruition. However, I predict that the trouble brewing between the natives and the Islamists will spread, reinvigerating the Right, which will align itself with rightwing Russia and torpedo the leftist scheme. Also the bankruptcy of the socialist systems will lead to the collapse of socialist power in the EU. I support a North American-UK-North European alliance. Probably a dellusion of mine.

Reposting as the following did not format correctly above. One person already guessed which Soviet Defector wrote this in 1984. Go ahead and take a shot if you haven't already seen Spycatcher's (astonishingly fast) answer.

In the modern era, military power is nothing but a function of military spending. If Europe is willing to spend the money, they can challenge America, no problem. If they're not, they won't.

All signs are that they're unwilling.

So spain will give up its seat in all international bodies and let the EU take care of it. Will France surrender its seat on the security counsel. Will the G8 membership be reduced to accomodate EU sovereignty control?

"Spain sees itself with France and Germany as never before.”

Birds of a feather.

Meanwhile the United States, being the total dumb asses of humanity they are, sit by and plan no strategic initiatives for the next 50 years, thereby allowing Spain to once again pillage and burn South America.

Sigh ...

Let's help them. They can start NOW. Let's stop spending our money to make up for what those craven socialists won't pay for their own defense. If they want to spend their money on 12 weeks vacation for every frog who ever sneered at America, then let them come up with the dough to fund more than their current useless parade armies.

Pull our troops out of Europe and send them to wherever else in the world there are people who need killing.

I'm really tired of Europeans.

Save your snotty condescencion alert: I've been all over Europe, so I don't need lectures about how wonderful Europeans are. They are a bunch of misguided, lazy, deluded socialists, mooching off our willingness to spend blod and treasure to make the world safe for them. I was in Amsterdam listening to them spout the glories of multiculturalism BEFORE the Dutch realized that their way of life is dying becaue they let in the cancer of Islamicism. Now they're catching on--but it is too late for them.
