Gov Sanford was our Congressman for a few years when we lived near Charleston. He wasn't suppose to win that seat, we voted for him in his first GOP primary. Primary went to a runoff, after winning that, he won the congressional seat. Promised to serve only two terms, and did. Slept in his DC office on a cot to save money. Was the dark horse in the GOP primary for Governor. Won in another runoff. We are very proud of our Governor. He would be a great US President. But I don't think Washington is ready for him. He would really PO some PP there - on both sides of the aisle. He would be a better VP candidate, so DC would get to know him and for the rest of the nation to love him like we do here in SC.

Was the dark horse in the GOP primary for Governor.Yup. That's it. Mark Sanford would win as a GOP "Dark horse" candiate for President. Washington isn't ready for Sanford, but Sanford's ready for Washington. People said the same about Reagan in 1976.
