NPR Spot on Roe Effect - Vanity

NPR is set to air a program this afternoon/evening that appears (based on the Morning Edition teaser) to deal with OpinionJournal's James Taranto's "Roe Effect". Seems Red State women are having more babies than Blue State women and NPR's looking the implications.

Also those who'd tend to breed in Blue States are moving to Red States in large numbers. Only Blue State (I believe) to gain electoral votes last time was California.

A good stat to start with.

Blacks make up ~12% of the population and voted for Kerry at a rate of ~89%. Blacks also have ~40% of the total abortions in America...

I know this is asking a lot, but I couldn't find this "Roe Effect" article on the wsj page (I subscribe), nor on FR. Could you post the article this vanity is referencing?

NPR couldn't spot an implication if its life depended on it.

NPR is constantly incorrect, and has been for years.

It should be renamed "National Collegiate Public Radio".

I know what the implication of THAT is!

I've always thought that the conservatives would eventually outnumber the liberals because it's usually the conservatives who have large families. I know very few liberals who have more than two children. But, I guess I'm just using anectodal evidence, lol.

Someone has 12 children, but I think some of them are adults now. Twelve babies at once? Oh my! :-)

Let those red states abortion themselves into oblivion!

Unfair to the babies.

I have read in the past that the native Kalifornians, and American born Kalifornians are leaving the state faster than being replaced. Only when you figure in the influx of illegals do you get a net gain.

The left is going to see this not as natural pruning of their pro-choice tree, but as a rallying cry to "ensure" cohabitating homosexuals adoption preferences.

Of course it could also be justification (in their minds) for surrogate mother baby manufacturing businesses.

Oh wow! I did put that wrong. I think I need to get off FR. My mind and fingers are not working as a team.

>>Unfair to the babies.<<

Too true, my FRiend. However at this point all we can do is pray and hope they smarten up.

We have a new program at church where we adopt a baby in the womb and pray that his/her mom won't abort. Living in this area, we have many babies who will be aborted. The girls and I adopted one.
I wish I could have it if the mom didn't want it. We would be a happy home!!!!

Here is a Best of the Web piece in the Journal from March.

Here is a crude attempt to calculate the effect in the Electoral College. Chillingly, this guy gives a point estimate of eight electoral votes switching to red states on account of different abortion rates.

The vote on our little country lane was Bush 6, Kerry 0. Come back in 15 years and the vote will be 22-0 for the Republicans. Suffice to say, there are some large families on this road...

"I couldn't find this "Roe Effect" article on the wsj page..."

It wasn't so much an article, but a theory he has advanced on several occaissions. The gist of it is this: Conservative women are much less likely to have abortions than liberal women and the conservative women will over time have more children than the liberal women will. Since children largely come to follow their parents' politics (teenage rebellions aside, I suppose) the electorate/population will eventually grow more conservative due to these sociopolitical demographics.

I think it is likely an accurate analysis, although my own anecdotal experience doesn't bear it out. Of folks I know with children the offspring of the liberals outnumber the offspring of the conservatives. But again, these are all blue staters we are talking about. And I'm not 100% sure about the politics of all involved, either.

"Let those red states abortion themselves into oblivion!"

Um, the red states were the ones who voted for Bush.

You DID know that, didn't you?
