FUNDRAISER:LAWSUIT: FREEPER SUED FOR ELECTION 2000 FREEP OF LIEBERMAN EVENT

Edited on 11/15/2004 11:12:31 PM PST by Admin Moderator. [history]

I am being sued for something that happened at the December 2000 Freep of Joe Lieberman.

JimRob has allowed me to hold an internet fundraiser to help defray the costs of my lawyers fees.

I am broke and thousands of dollars in debt, and depending on how much I can collect here, I amnot sure if I can continue or work to sign a mutual release if offered.

Right now, we have ended the discovery phase, and are awaiting the deposition of the man who accused me of assaulting him that day.

That charge is a lie.

The following story below is my short account of what happened that day.

indeed. The concept here is scary: why couldn't someone sue any of us for "emotional distress" at seeing a Bush/Cheney 04 sign on our lawns or cars?

You scared me by saying that and even negligent infliction of emotional distress is actionable. Expect to be hearing from my lawyer. I could use the cash. ;-)

I thought he was first: gong to run to the front of the truck, make faces or grab the microphone or something, then, he suddenly cut like a fullback, jumped on the truck at running speed, and I immediately thought he was on the offense, not sure what, but definitely attacking someone for some reason...and then all of a suden, he stops in his tracks, withut me pushing back at all.

You're wrong. And you can have a real hard time getting the money from them.

I have not had a single problem with PayPal in over two years since I signed up. What sort of problem did you have?

Hello Jim -

Although we've never met - we've communicated a lot over the years, and I've seen lots of your posts and contributions - I'm sorry to hear about this ridiculous suit - Is there a way to counter sue?

In any event - the check is in the mail - really it is!

Are you able to accept PayPal transfers, or any other online money transfers? I'd like to help out, and I can get you money a lot quicker and simpler that way....

From FReeper Race Bannon:
CAN YOU PLEASE HELP??
I am forced to ask, but can you consider donating to help me pay my legal fees?

Because of this false charge against me, I am now over $8000 in debt to my lawyer, and we cannot continue until I can pay my bill!

Could you please send me $5 or $10 or $20 to help my legal fees?

If you can, Please send a check or money order to me directly at:

How long you been here??

asgardshill is one of the linchpins of our volunteer troop support group that sends care packages to units in the war zones, loosely called The Merry Band of Patriots.

He pinged me to this thread.

Care packages and Thank-you Notes for our Troops in Afghanistan

Christmas for our Troops in Kirkuk

Christmas cards and letters for our Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan

I'd defend any of us that got a bum rap at a FReeper rally, so I'm going to ping my lists, but many of them are already here.

I will make up the $8900 that I owe or so, plus the extra in taxes I will have to pay because this is not tax deductible, this has to be considered income.

As I posted earlier, I'm sending money. And you'll probably need more than the $8900 because the case goes on.

It's true that the cost of the suit is not tax-deductable. However, whether the contributions are taxable income to you is a separate question. Generally, gifts to an individual are not considered to be income for tax purposes. They are not subject to income tax and are subject to gift tax only when a person gives more than several thousand dollars to any other person.

I'm not an expert. Maybe there is a special rule that makes it taxable when you ask for contributions? At any rate, before you list contributions as income, you should check with a tax advisor unless you already have done so.

"...Will you please use your ping list to notify more FReepers."

Roger that, ma'am. Can the Middle East crowd 'ping' their lists? Impromptu Fundy's here. I don't know RaceBannon too well, but me and JudyB1938 have been together in the Arena since '98, so what she endorses GOES on my end. She was the one who recruited me to FREE REPUBLIC!!  !

Knock it off; this isn't about politics;

Did I miss something here? Have posts been removed?

Sorry Race, I'm laying in bed recovering fom back surgery(they carved me up like a christmas goose), but will pass it along to anyone who will listen!

Sounds like this guy needs to have his clock cleaned.

See what happens when you try to be a nice guy and let an idiot off without pressing charges. Dems like this are crawling out of the stink-holes they slither into more an more these days. We need to throw off the kid gloves against a$$h#le$ like this and start giving them some of what they dish out. Hope you can sue him for defamation when this is behind you!
