Don't take this so seriously! Garrison is hilarious, I've always loved his work. I was laughing aloud at his essay. He's a good guy, a friendly liberal.

Site Meter Nope let the ants eat his eyeballs, and scorpions pinch each of his toes - then fingertips...and when that is done let the hawks nibble his ears and small garter snakes go slithering through his nasal and cranial cavaties

Apparantly you missed his vile rant after Norm Coleman defeated the sainted Walter Mondale in '02. It's here in the FR archives somewhere.

He's a mean-spirited, overrated boor. The ONE time I listened to him he told a story about a young woman who was queen of the homecoming parade, having the day of her life. Until her ignorant dad accidentally crashed the parade in his sewer truck in front of the whole town, that is.

Probably a story he made up about a real chick who told him "not if he was the last man on earth", or something to that effect.

Yea, he's hilarious as much as the Dixie Chicks are musically gifted. The only difference in their political and moral views is that Garrison expresses his elitist ideas artfully.

And insult is an insult, regardless how it's delivered.

Ain't no such of a thing...''friendly liberal''.

Ask any Soviet emigre about the notion of a ''friendly Marxist'' (be prepared to duck, btw), and the one is identical to the other, bar only the different label.

Living next door in Wisconsin and being aware of Keillor for more than thirty years, I can truthfully state that he does hate Republicans and has stated as much in a number interviews over the years. He also occasionally has an op-ed column where he enunciates his anti-conservative ramblings more stridently. The ironic thing is that much of his satire is directed at people of whom a very large percentage are conservative Republicans. Maybe the gentle humor was just a guise for the urge to be more vicious. But being vicious is not approved in the state whose unofficial slogan is "Minnesota Nice". But now we can call Keillor "Minnesota Nasty".
