CALLING CONDOLEEZZA
New York Post ^ | 11/16/04

The departure of Secretary of State Colin Powell, announced yesterday in Washington, was both expected and necessary.

Expected, in that Powell has made no secret of his desire to return to private life. He will do so with the gratitude of the nation he has served so well.

Necessary, in that the mandate America handed President Bush on Election Day will soon be translated into an increasingly robust foreign policy of precisely the sort that, frankly, has discomfited Powell for the past two years.

Who better, then, to replace Powell than one of the principal architects of that policy — National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, tabbed by Bush late yesterday.

[snip]

Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and National Security Adviser Rice often were in opposition to Powell and the State Department bureaucracy; it was no secret that the disagreements were sharp — indeed, often bitter.

[snip]

America's needs in an age of global terror must be addressed on a shorter timeline; so it is better that Powell, who sometimes seemed more willing to trust foreign capitals than appeared wise at the time, returns to private life.

Enter Condoleezza Rice.

[snip]

She may not fit the mold of the traditional diplomat — preemption is the antithesis of diplomacy, so the Arabists and other connivers at the State Department are no doubt having fits at the prospect of working for her — but Rice is tailor-made to serve in that role.

Her appointment is most welcome news.

Hasn't anybody noticed that since January 2001, the RATS have been only reacting to what the President has done?

President Bush has been controlling the agenda all along!
